Role
Who you are
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in a public accounting firm
Desirable
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, particularly in the areas of inventory, fixed assets, and lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Experience working across a variety of teams and leading complex projects
- Proven experience in technical accounting research and documentation
- Experience in the tech industry or supply chain
- Experience with SAP Cloud
What the job involves
- The Finance and Accounting group manages all aspects of our finances and serves as trusted advisors for all our strategic and enterprise endeavors
- Along with managing compilation of our financial statements, looking after our cash and overseeing compliance, we partner closely with the business in overseeing company wide resource allocation, developing cutting edge compensation initiatives and generating detailed financial analyses to drive the business forward
- We also develop advanced capital strategies to support the company's short- and long-term future
- You will report to an Accounting Manager
- Design operational processes based on business needs (i.e., Dbw)
- Provide a number of viable options to solve problems identified from the capitalization process
- Identify control gaps / improvements in vehicle capitalization
- Identify and resolve complex technical accounting issues quickly & accurately
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Supply Chain, FP&A , BSE, and tax, to provide accounting guidance on business initiatives and new transactions
Our take
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company that began as the Google self-driving car project in 2009. After initial development, it secured permits to deploy autonomous ride-hailing services in cities including Phoenix and San Francisco, but has recently hit a major bump in the road with safety concerns that resulted in a recall of over 400 self-driving cars.
With the autonomous driving industry already besieged by setbacks and public distrust, this development does Waymo no favours. That said, as an industry leader there remains the possibility it will see out the storm, but massive attention will need to be given to rebuilding trust with consumers if this is to be the case.
