- You are experienced and passionate about building products and systems that make a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of people and their health

- Deep experience in backend engineering (typically 10+ years), including platform or infrastructure-focused work
- A self-starter mindset — able to operate independently, thrive amid ambiguity, ask the right questions, and plan complex work in clear, achievable phases
- Proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Flask) and building scalable, production-grade systems on AWS
- Expertise in CI/CD (GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and modern DevOps workflows
- Proven experience evolving systems from monoliths to microservices (REST, GraphQL, event-driven)
- Strong foundation in data design (Postgres, DynamoDB, or similar)
- A thoughtful, security-first approach — especially with PII or healthcare data
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, especially in ambiguous environments
Desirable
- Experience with secure OAuth-based systems (Auth0 or similar)
- Familiarity with security/compliance frameworks (HIPAA, ISO 27001/13485)
- Exposure to frontend technologies such as (React, TypeScript) and an appreciation for seamless end-to-end development
- Experience ensuring reliable service integrations through contract or end-to-end testing (e.g., Pact, Playwright, Cypress)
- Knowledge of healthcare data standards (DICOM, PACS, EMR, HealthLake)
- Background in fast-scaling startups or evolving engineering orgs
What the job involves
- Lead the design, evolution, and reliability of critical backend systems and cross-cutting platform services
- Enhance core systems such as authentication, observability, feature management, and communication infrastructure
- Drive best practices in testing and CI/CD to improve developer velocity and product reliability
- Tackle technical debt through thoughtful refactors and architectural improvements
- Ensure security, privacy, and compliance for sensitive health and identity data
- Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks within the backend ecosystem
- Mentor engineers and elevate technical standards across teams
- Collaborate with Product, Security, QA, and Clinical stakeholders to align platform direction
- Evaluate and advocate for technologies that enhance system robustness and developer experience
Our take
The quantified self movement is gaining momentum, especially in the health and fitness sector. Wearable health monitors, sleep trackers, and genetic testing have all firmly entered the mainstream, and body MRI scanning service Prenuvo is taking this concept to the next level. Prenuvo’s whole body diagnostic imaging offers customers a comprehensive picture of their body, whilst screening for 500+ major conditions and cancers.
The medical benefits of approaching these diseases proactively, as opposed to reactively, are substantial. Customers will be able to catch warning signs early, meaning treatment is likely to be less invasive, with a higher success rate. Unfortunately North America, like many regions, has yet to make substantial investments in preventative healthcare. This just makes companies like Prenuvo, and the VCs who fund them, increasingly necessary.
This funding, however has been substantial, and having closed multiple funding rounds, the company is now setting its sights on Europe. The opening of its first London clinic marks the start of that expansion, brining Prenuvo's full-body MRI services to a new market with high demand for early detection and diagnostic imaging. With plans to evaluate additional cities across the continent, the company is in a position to grow its international presence.
