Role
Who you are
- Strong end-to-end product design skills, with a focus on design systems and UI
- Systems thinking - understanding how changes in one area can impact others across a complex, multi-user product
- Experience working with Engineers and AI tools to build and maintain design systems

What the job involves
- We are a hybrid team, based throughout the UK. We offer the flexibility to work outside of the UK up to 90 days per year
- We're looking for a mid-level Product Designer to join our growing design team and help shape the next stage of Isla's product experience
- Reporting to our Product Design Lead and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and our Clinical Safety Officer, you'll play a key role in improving UX and UI across our product
- You'll help create the conditions for great design to thrive: advocating for strong design-led thinking, improving design practices, and ensuring design remains an enabler rather than a bottleneck as we scale
- Design complex clinical and patient-facing experiences end-to-end, from flows and wireframes through to polished UI and implementation-ready designs
- Ensure user needs are represented throughout the product development process, from early discovery and problem definition through to delivery and iteration
- Influence our approach to AI - explore and experiment with AI tools within the design workflow, helping identify practical ways they can improve speed, quality and collaboration
- Work closely with our Engineers to drive forward our design system, ensuring it is usable, accessible, and AI-ready
- Improve UX quality across the platform - proactively identify friction, inconsistencies, and opportunities to simplify workflows and improve the overall user experience
Application process
- Interviewing with us for this role will be split into 4 stages (all conducted virtually):
- Video interview - Successful applicants will be invited to send a short elevator pitch. We want to see the person behind the CV!
- Screening call with one of our Ops team - 15 minutes
- Interview with our Product Design Lead (Rich) and Senior Software Engineer - 45 minutes
- A final interview with our Director of Product (Lara) and CTO/Co-founder (James) - 30 minutes
Our take
Isla wants to empower healthcare professionals by allowing them to use visual data—photos and videos of patients—by securely recording this data to a medical professional's smartphone.
The ambitious startup has partnered with the Central London Community Healthcare Trust and the NHS, successfully supporting various NHS trusts on their digitisation journey. Isla will focus on leveraging visual data to improve end-of-life care and dermatology services. Additionally, the company has added an Impact page to its website, showcasing evidence of Isla's benefits.
Now that a case can be made for visual health data flows being helpful, the company's platform could see even wider adoption. Once sufficiently high-quality data sets have been collected, Isla can use the visual data, provided with patient consent, to inform medical practice more generally.
The next few years at Isla should be interesting as the company is looking to replicate the operation of its product across several hospitals and healthcare facilities. Isla's end game is to be fully integrated into all incumbent Patient Administration Systems to make the platform seamless for clinicians.
