Role
Who you are
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Academic or hands-on experience in robotics, mechanical, or electromechanical design
- Experience designing for manufacturability (machined parts, sheet metal, castings, thermoplastics)
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as Creo, Windchill, or SolidWorks
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals, including stress analysis and basic FEA
- Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Experience working with suppliers, RFQs, and manufacturing processes
- Exposure to requirements definition, validation, and risk analysis (e.g., FMEA)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with teams and interact with customers
- Hands-on, team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach
What the job involves
- Locus Robotics is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to support the development of our autonomous mobile robots and related accessories. This role sits within the Customer & Continuation Engineering group and focuses on design, analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to bring scalable, cost-effective hardware solutions to production
- Co-Op period is June/July - December 2026, during standard business hours (Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET)
- Design, model, and detail components and assemblies for AMRs and supporting accessories using Creo/Windchill and SolidWorks
- Evaluate designs for strength and stiffness using hand calculations, FEA, and other analytical methods
- Develop components optimized for high-volume, cost-effective manufacturing
- Partner with operations, manufacturing, and procurement teams to improve assembly efficiency and meet production timelines
- Collaborate with suppliers to define competitive manufacturing strategies
- Support prototyping efforts, including machining, 3D printing, and rapid iteration processes
- Assist in developing and executing validation and test plans
- Document designs and present work through design reviews to cross-functional stakeholders

Many order fulfilment warehouses rely on a combination of human workers and machinery to operate packaging assembly lines. However, these workflows are time-consuming and repetitive, showing the potential for human workers to be replaced with AI-driven robots.
Locus Robotics provides automated robotic technologies for fulfilment warehouses, offering a range of different robots for different workflows. Every robot outputs data that can be tracked and analyzed, and they can be installed rapidly and scaled depending on business size.
Whilst robots in warehouses is not a new concept, they are generally limited to warehouse giants such as Amazon. Locus Robotics, however, has taken a flexible and accessible approach to its technology, aiming to increase access and affordability so that smaller businesses can scale.
Having picked over three billion items across its network of customers, the company is well established. It has also seen significant funding which has supported international expansion. In the longer term, it has plans to consider an IPO, as long as market conditions allow.
