Who you are
- Polyglot Developer: Strong proficiency in at least two major languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Node.js, or C#)
- Database Native: Deep understanding of NoSQL concepts, distributed systems, and SQL-based query languages (N1QL)
- Consultative Mindset: Ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to both developers and executive stakeholders
- Operational Agility: Comfortable navigating Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift)

Desirable
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Technical Consulting
- Domain Expertise: Proven track record of deploying large-scale distributed databases or data intensive applications

What the job involves
- As a Deployed Customer Engineer (DCE), you are the technical bridge between Couchbase’s engineering excellence and our customers’ most ambitious business goals
- You are an embedded technical partner who writes production-grade code, builds high-performance database architectures, and ensures our platform powers the heart of mission-critical, AI-driven applications
- You will deliver strategic solutioning and work within customer engineering teams to deliver business outcomes through technical implementations
- Hands-on Coding: Write clean, scalable code to build integrations, APIs, and data models that connect Couchbase with customer ecosystems
- Product Configuration: Expertly configure Couchbase Server, Capella (DBaaS), and Mobile products to optimize for latency, throughput, and reliability
- Architecture Design: Design and implement advanced data architectures, including Vector Search and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) patterns for modern AI applications
- Embedded Partnership: Integrate directly with customer development teams, participating in sprints and code reviews to ensure best practices are understood, implemented, and governed
- Problem Solving: Act as the "boots on the ground" to troubleshoot complex distributed systems issues, performance bottlenecks, and deployment hurdles
- Value Realization: Translate business requirements into technical milestones, ensuring the customer achieves a rapid Time-to-Value
- Product Feedback Loop: Act as a conduit between the field and our core Product/Engineering teams, advocating for features and fixes based on real-world usage
- Sales Alignment: Partner with Solution Engineers to identify expansion opportunities by demonstrating the "art of the possible" within existing accounts
Our take
Critical functions for digital businesses such as computing and storage have become cheaper by orders of magnitude with the advent of cloud computing. However, these businesses still face the challenge of architecting their services under this paradigm. Couchbase’s NoSQL database is designed to help organizations build scalable, distributed systems that take advantage of cloud-native infrastructure.
The company's major bets on Kubernetes, mobile and NoSQL have paid off too. With many large enterprises now treating Couchbase as mission-critical infrastructure, a trajectory that culminated because of ts 2021 IPO. While it operates in a highly competitive database market, the company has continued to grow post-IPO and is now positioning itself around the next shift in enterprise architecture: AI-native applications.
The recent launch of Couchbase AI Services reflects an effort to unify operational data, vector search and model hosting within a single platform, reducing the complexity that often prevents generative AI and agent-based systems from moving beyond proof-of-concept. By embedding governance, validation and security controls directly into the data layer, Couchbase is aiming to make its database a core foundation for production AI workloads.
