Role
Who you are
- You have 8+ years of professional experience in mobile development with a strong emphasis on iOS (Swift, UIKit/SwiftUI)
- You have production experience building and maintaining native Android apps (Kotlin)
- You have a deep understanding of iOS architecture patterns, performance tuning, and Apple’s design best practices
- You have a proven ability to influence architecture and long-term engineering direction across teams or functions
- You have a track record of mentoring engineers, providing thoughtful code reviews, and fostering technical growth
- You have experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with Product, Design, and Data partners
- You have familiarity with modern tools and pipelines: CI/CD, unit/UI testing, instrumentation, crash analytics
- You have strong communication skills and a passion for solving real user problems with simple & effective mobile solutions
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Principal Mobile Engineer to help lead the technical vision for our consumer-facing native mobile applications, with a primary focus on iOS (Swift) and working knowledge of Android (Kotlin)
- You’ll play a key role in shaping the mobile strategy, evolving our architecture, and mentoring a talented team of engineers building features used by millions
- This is a high-impact, cross-functional role for someone who is equally passionate about elegant engineering and empowering user experiences
- You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Data Science, and other Engineering teams to bring Stitch Fix’s mobile-first experiences to life
- Lead technical strategy and architectural decisions for our native mobile apps, focusing on the iOS platform
- Collaborate across teams to deliver innovative, scalable features that drive personalization, conversion, and long-term client engagement
- Provide technical mentorship and thought leadership to mobile engineers across iOS and Android platforms
- Partner with Android engineers to ensure platform parity, shared best practices, and consistent client experiences
- Drive continuous improvement in performance, stability, and code quality across mobile codebases
- Stay ahead of mobile industry trends and help Stitch Fix leverage modern frameworks, tools, and practices
Our take
Shopping online for clothes is not always a fun experience. Finding clothes you like is only half the battle. Sizing guides and return policies seem to have been designed to be challenging to understand, and can also vary wildly from company to company.
Stitchfix sets out to change this by making online clothes shopping personalized and hassle-free. Customers take a survey on their personal tastes, and pay a one-off fee for a stylist, to receive a box of 5 personalized items. Then, they simply pay for any items they keep, or return what they don't want free of charge. The stylists fee is deducted from the first purchase and if they keep all 5 items, they receive a discount.
Stitchfix's unique blend of technology, and human touch in styling, allows the company to deliver its personalized experience at scale, with its growing data sets putting them in a great place to predict consumer trends and preferences. Unfortunately, the company has been hit hard by the current economic climate - cutting staff back in June 2022 as well as again in early 2023. Only time will tell if this once exciting brand will be able to bounce back from this bump in the road and find success again in the future.
