What the job involves
- Joining us means stepping into a dynamic in-house legal role where no two days are the same
- You’ll work across multiple industries, tackling a broad range of legal matters without being expected to be an expert in them all
- Instead, we value practical thinking, a can-do attitude, and the ability to navigate new challenges with confidence
- You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Legal, gaining valuable insights and leadership experience, while also collaborating with external solicitors on complex matters
- We believe in empowering our team members, offering autonomy in their work, and encouraging growth in areas that interest them
- The Legal & Governance Team are one of the ‘Centres of Expertise’ within Octopus and form part of a much larger Risk & Compliance function
- The team provide corporate compliance and governance services to Octopus group companies and Octopus managed funds
- There are 12 people in the team, looking after a variety of companies ranging from listed VCTs, FCA regulated entities, institutional funds and LLPs that invest in renewable energy, healthcare, property, fibre networks and much more
- A very small part of the team are also responsible for ad hoc legal advice across the Group, the management of third party solicitors and external spend
- Review and draft a variety of legal agreements
- Instruct external solicitors on more complex / niche areas
- Manage external legal spend across the Octopus Group
- Manage Board & Committee meetings
- Produce Board and Committee papers
- Minute meetings
- Follow up on actions
- Work with other departments
- Oversee the work of more junior members of the team
