Role
Who you are
- 5+ years combined experience in Site Reliability engineering and/or Cloud administration
- 3+ yrs experience with Cloud Infrastructure (AWS, GCP)
- 2+ years automation experience using popular languages (bash, python, etc); software development background a plus
- 2+ years professional experience with UNIX-based Operating Systems
- 1-3 years experience with Terraform, Ansible, Chef as part of building and releasing infrastructure as code
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience building Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (C/CD) workflows
- Experience tuning and troubleshooting performance for high traffic web services
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Strong understanding of common network protocols, including HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, SSL/TLS, and relevant diagnostic tools
- Database fundamentals and experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Git and Github workflows
- Understanding of packaging, deployment, and support of containerized (Docker) applications
Desirable
- Experience deploying microservices environments
- Experience converting applications to run in Docker containers, and with orchestration layers
- Computer Science or Engineering degree
What the job involves
- The Infrastructure Engineering team is seeking Senior Engineers to tackle an ambitious project pipeline including solutions for disaster recovery/highly available platforms, dynamic development environments, and more
- As a new member of this growing team, this Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will help shape The RealReal's production infrastructure and Engineering culture
- Maintain and evolve our infrastructure, employing automation, and infrastructure-as-code
- Build and maintain our code pipelines, designing and building automation in order to enable agile software development, using self-service where possible
- Collaborate efficiently and effectively with Software Engineers and Product teams on complex problems
- Build and contribute to infrastructure services, keeping with 12 Factor methodology
- Quickly absorb context and knowledge while ramping up and using that to build or bolster documentation
- Keep a strong level of quality and velocity in your work, while collaborating and reporting when appropriate
- Exercise and promote security best practices throughout your workflow
- Participate in an on-call rotation on a regular basis and respond to incidents reliably and professionally

The company has sought to boost its activities through strategic moves like a partnership with Gucci, which is focusing on sustainability as it incentivises its customers to buy authenticated secondhand goods via The RealReal. Also, there have been forward-thinking approaches to customer acquisition and retention such as AI pricing and fake finding. Regardless, as a primarily retail-based company, The RealReal was affected by inflation in 2023 and made a 7% cut to its workforce to reduce operational costs in the first quarter. 2024 Q1 also showed the company to report a loss with an optimistic hope for growth in the following quarters.
