Role
Who you are
- Experienced data professional – You have a strong quantitative background and 3+ years of experience in data science or analytics, ideally in an online company
- Technical skills – You're proficient in SQL and comfortable writing code to transform data into insights, whether in Python, R, or another language. You can handle large datasets, manage complex data pipelines, and work with tools like Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI, and data transformation tools like dbt or Dataform
- Statistical expertise – You have a solid understanding of statistics and can apply techniques like regression analysis, causal inference, and hypothesis testing to extract meaningful insights from data
- Web and app analytics – You have experience with tracking tools like Google Analytics (GA) and Google Tag Manager (GTM), helping to measure and optimize user behavior
- Data-driven experimentation – You understand A/B testing principles and how to apply them to drive meaningful insights
- Turning data into action – You don’t just analyze data—you extract insights that drive business decisions, even with minimal engineering support
- Strong communicator – You work effectively with business owners, engineers, and leadership, translating data insights into clear recommendations
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Data Scientist - Product Insights to work with our Product teams and leverage data to identify user journey opportunities and measure success of our product features and teams
- You will be part of the Data Science Product Insights Team helping us make sense of our data, finding actionable insights and creating self-service opportunities by combining data from multiple sources and working closely together with your colleagues in other departments
- In this role no two days will be the same: you will build dashboards, design robust A/B tests, uncover trends in user behaviour, collaborate with your Data colleagues on discovery for a new ML model, or enhance the reliability of our data pipelines
- Whatever the task, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Catawiki’s product solutions and deliver real impact
- Own analytics for a broad product area – Unlike at larger companies where analytics roles are more specialized, at Catawiki, you’ll take full ownership of a major part of the platform
- This could mean leading analytics for all buyer-facing features, all seller-facing experiences, or everything related to fulfillment
- You’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively identify opportunities by deeply understanding Catawiki’s user behavior
- Turn data into insights and recommendations – You’ll go beyond tracking metrics—you’ll define and refine key success measures, uncover trends, and translate data into clear recommendations
- Your insights will help shape Product decisions, flag opportunities, and drive the strategy forward
- Through dashboards and reports, you’ll make sure the right information is always at hand to guide the business
- Leverage advanced analytics – Using techniques like regression analysis, causal inference, and A/B testing, you’ll analyze user behavior, identify actionable insights, and evaluate the effectiveness of new features to ensure continuous improvement
- Enable data-driven decision-making at scale – You’ll identify and implement self-service data solutions that empower Product teams to make informed decisions faster
- Beyond Product analytics, you’ll contribute to foundational data projects like building scalable data pipelines, improving data accessibility, and expanding our A/B Experimentation program
Our take
In the past, it was only possible to purchase special items such as rare coins, antiques, and vintage cars at auctions held at physical locations. These days, many people prefer online auctions, but whilst they provide a wider range of objects for sale, this comes at the cost of proper pricing and quality control. Catawiki provides an expert-regulated online auctioning marketplace where users can browse and bid for special objects easily via the web or mobile app.
The objects listed on Catawiki are curated, valued, and verified by in-house experts, with over 65,000 objects passing through the marketplace every week. In this approach, the company has combined the community knowledge found at traditional auctions with the benefits of digital auctioning platforms, occupying a space that has long remained empty, and avoiding competition from bidding marketplace giants such as eBay.
Catawiki has received good funding in the past, which contributed to it becoming the success it is today. A recent venture has seen the company expand to serve artisanal artists with its handmade products auction series.
