What the job involves

Ashby is a modern applicant tracking system (ATS) and recruiting software platform designed to help high-growth companies hire better. Our customers are talent acquisition leaders—some of the most human, communicative, and community-driven professionals out there. They care deeply about how they impact candidates every day, and we believe that our brand and visual identity should reflect that
Our design team plays a critical role in ensuring that Ashby’s brand shows up as a true partner to the TA community—one that is trustworthy, modern, and human. We’re looking for a Brand Designer who is excited to help shape how we visually express Ashby’s vision and values across every touchpoint
As Brand Designer, you’ll be responsible for elevating and expanding Ashby’s visual identity across multiple formats, from digital to experiential. You’ll work closely with Menno (Principal Designer) and the marketing team to ensure our brand is cohesive and bold, human yet differentiated
Refining and expanding our brand design framework, ensuring consistency across web, digital, print, and experiential formats
Designing a broad range of assets—from web and campaign creative to billboards, community swag, and event branding
Developing scalable brand systems, creating templates and guidelines that empower internal teams while maintaining brand integrity
The products we're building at Ashby fundamentally improve people's working lives. Because of how we build and how we connect with our community we have a strong fan base and brand advocates. Assignment includes a 30 minute Q&A session with the prompt which will be some raw graphs from our Talent Trend Reports along with our brand guidelines for you to complete a task and turn it in
45-minute interview with Menno Drontmann to go deep on creative principles, design systems, and brand-building
30 minutes with one of our co-founders, Benji or Abhik
Final panel interview with a cross-functional team

Our take

Reportedly, 50% of employers don’t use applicant tracking systems, largely because of blockers with implementation or insufficient buy-in from top management. Ashby's co-founder and CEO, Benji Encz, experienced first-hand how existing solutions failed to support hyper-growth hiring needs whilst working at PlanGrid, which is in part what led to the creation of the company.

Ashby is looking to redefine the ATS category - providing talent teams with analytics, workflows and automation - and intends to replace solutions from well-established vendors like Greenhouse and Lever with algorithms. The company's AI can schedule interviews and infer demographic data, which clients use for aggregate analyses of DEI hiring metrics.

The market for recruitment software could potentially reach $3.5 billion by 2030. Unsurprisingly, there is now a growing number of startups emerging to compete for a slice of it. Despite the crowded market and having only emerged from stealth in 2022, Ashby has already secured over 500 clients (including high-profile customers like Notion and Figma). The company has also attracted impressive funding which will be used to expand its product offering beyond what is typically expected from an ATS.
