Role
Who you are
- 3+ years experience as a Product Designer including some experience with mobile design
- A design generalist; while you may have developed a specialism, you have a range of typography, layout and information visualisation skills
- Love speaking to users to understand needs, in order to solve problems as effectively as possible
- Partnering with product and growth to leverage quantitative data to solve problems
- Obsess over small details that take designs to the next level (e.g., perfect pixel alignment, interaction, animations)
- Great Figma & prototyping skills (e.g. asset libraries)
- Confident working with a cross-functional team in a fast-paced, iterative environment
- Confident facilitating and participating in workshops and discussions to promote the communication of ideas
- Have a public design portfolio / twitter
- Have mentored and/or line managed less senior designers
Desirable
- Have worked with consumer/start-up/mobile apps before
- Have worked with React Native teams before and understand the design implications
- Have worked on smartwatch interface design
- Have an interest or background in fitness, running or health
- Have spent hours reading case studies 💌
What the job involves
- We are looking for talented, creative and positive team players to join our highly-skilled Cross-Functional Product and Engineering Team to help design new features for our iOS, Android and Apple watch applications and third-party integrations (Garmin, Strava, Coros, Suunto etc)
- You will work closely with our founders, engineers, PM and most importantly customers, to help shape the future of Runna, who will be there to support you all the way along this exciting journey
- As a Senior Product Designer your role will to be involved in the full end-to-end product delivery from research to going live:
- Working with the whole team as well as our amazing customers to discover and prioritise user’s needs across their journey
- Conduct user testing sessions and incorporate feedback into your work
- Help improve Runna’s user research and user testing processes, working with the other designers and PMs
- Be a voice for Design within the company
- Work with Product and create solutions / customer journeys for complex design problems
- Illustrate design ideas using user flows, prototypes and wireframes in Figma
- Collaborate with developers to handover designs and ensure great interaction
- Continue to iterate and develop our design library in Figma
- You will be reporting directly to (Co-Founder and CEO). You’ll also be managing one of our incredible Product Designers based in New York 🇺🇸 and working closely with our amazing UI/UX Design Lead who’s based in London 🇬🇧
- We are continuing to hire out our design function in the US as part of our overall US expansion - we want designers that (1) really understand our target user and market (2) are able to effectively conduct user research with our target users, on their time zone and (3) understand and are users of our app, our partners, competitors and the wider US running industry. As such, we are currently only open to US-based applicants for this role!
- Finally, Runna is growing incredibly quickly and we reinvest all of our profits into building a better product. As such the design team will be scaling quickly over the coming months and years and we’d expect you to play a pivotal role in this; from getting involved with hiring to helping set the design culture and practices!
- Note: we’re open to exploring a 3 month contract initially to see if it’s a good fit for both parties

- Take home design task (~1 hour to complete)
- Design walkthrough and app critique with Dom and Alp (50 minutes video call - the first part will be used to discuss the design task from the previous stage and the second talking through an app that you know well)
- Whiteboard challenge with Dom and another PM (50 minutes video call)
- Meet the team (virtual or in-person chat with founder(s) and rest of the design and product team)
- Once the process is finished, we promise to let you know our decision as soon as possible
Our take
As a way to keep fit, running has shot up in popularity in recent years, partially due to accessibility, especially during the pandemic. But for those who want to take running to the next level – whether that be a 5K or a marathon – it can be difficult to know where to start in terms of a training plan. Runna supplies an app with personalised training plans for all types of runs, to help people achieve their running and fitness goals.
Runna was founded in 2020 by running enthusiasts for running enthusiasts, in response to the lack of tools – save paying a professional trainer – available to help runners train. Although there is a wealth of day-to-day running apps available, where Runna stands out is in providing training plans for specific races, which can be distinguished by distance and goal time. In addition, it does this whilst maintaining a sense of community, which has proven to be a popular feature amongst other running apps, and still caters to a range of experience levels.
Runna has since consistent subscriber growth since its launch, serving thousands of users globally. The company plans to build and scale into the future, reach more customers, and expand its team.
