Who you are

Experience ensuring quality in machine learning and numerical computing systems, including hands-on familiarity with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar ecosystems, and an understanding of the unique challenges in validating model correctness, performance, and reproducibility
Proven experience defining and implementing quality systems at scale across complex software and ML development lifecycles
Proven experience defining and implementing quality systems at scale
Devotion to quality and engineering excellence, with a track record of driving measurable improvements in product quality
Strong collaboration skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and leadership stakeholders
Experience identifying and managing quality strategies across large software systems

What the job involves

At Modular, we are looking for a Quality Technical Lead who will define and drive the strategy for quality across our engineering organization. This is a pivotal role shaping how Modular ensures product excellence as we build the future of AI infrastructure
You will partner closely with engineering and product teams, develop a cohesive quality program, and guide the adoption of modern practices and tools. Your focus will be on driving measurable improvements in product quality through scalable, sustainable approaches
Design and develop Modular’s Quality Strategy, defining principles, priorities, and metrics that enable continuous improvement
Implement and develop an end-to-end full stack quality system with cross-team collaboration
Integrate with teams to collaborate in developing testing strategies
Proactively identify systemic risks to quality and coordinate initiatives to address them
Monitor, analyze, and improve the effectiveness of Modular’s quality-related processes (e.g., test nondeterminism, CI/CD performance, release readiness)
Provide technical guidance and thought leadership in quality for Modular ML products

AI development is booming, but the tools behind it? Not so much. Developers are often stuck dealing with messy, disconnected systems that slow everything down and bump up costs.

To address this, Modular has developed a unified AI platform that streamlines the development process. It's AI Engine enhances the performance of models on CPUs and GPUs, supporting popular frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch. And on top of that, it's built Mojo, a programming language that's as easy as Python but much faster (35,000 times faster).

In 2023, the company raised an impressive $100M to power its mission. It's been using this funding to grow its team, support more hardware, and push Mojo even further. With the hopes of making AI development faster, smoother, and a whole lot more fun for everyone.
