Who you are

4+ years of experience shipping (larger-scale B2B) software products
Bachelor's degree in Design (e.g., Interaction, Graphic, Visual Communications, Product, Industrial), Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Strong fundamentals in complex interaction design problems
Strong fundamentals in creating flow charts, wireframes, high-fidelity design mockups, and detailed design specifications
Proficient with Figma and other industry-standard design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, InVisio, Principle, etc.)
A portfolio that highlights design principles, showcases strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills with a high standard for quality, and demonstrates command of visual design, including typography and color theory
Good understanding of technology including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Great communication and storytelling skills
A self starter with the ability to work effectively in teams

What the job involves

Work closely with a small team of product designers, product managers, and cross-functional partners to create current and future product experiences
Design new features and enhancements for various StarTree products from start to finish, helping to shape our future as we advance our technology, products, and design standards
Help shape the overall design and product direction at StarTree
Undertake rapid development of low-fidelity wireframes to communicate design options and align on a solution
Create and deliver high-quality products and improvements, with detailed prototypes and visuals
Engage in user research to better understand our users and refine our products

Our take

StarTree is a startup founded by the creators of Apache Pinot, which delivers scaled analytics at low latency for up to millions of users and has proven successful with market giants like Weibo, Walmart, and LinkedIn. StarTree is the platform-as-a-service version of Apache Pinot for enterprise, which is used by Cisco, Etsy and Target.

The company's pedigree is strong, with founders previously holding engineering positions at Uber and LinkedIn. They saw firsthand the benefits of providing real-time insights to users of LinkedIn and Uber Eats, knowing it would sit well with the wider population.

Certainly, with more companies grappling with larger data pools at speed, the demand for low-latency analytics engines appears to only be growing. StarTree hopes to position Apache Pinot as the go-to engine for this and is focusing on marketing and sales to fend off rivals such as ClickHouse. It is expanding internationally as well to drive uptake, opening an office in India to grow into Asian markets.
