Role
Who you are
- A high-performing engineer with 10+ years of experience and a proven track record of delivering end-to-end solutions that drive business growth
- You are a strong programmer with modern web stacks such as React + Rails, Python/Django, or Node/Express. We use Rails, and you should be excited to pick up a new one if it's not already in your repertoire
- You have a proven track record of delivering high-quality, impactful projects
- Experience in e-commerce or consumer applications is a plus but not required
- Able to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- An excellent systems thinker, architecting and delivering large projects independently and with a team
- A mentor and coach who fosters a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Results-oriented, with a keen ability to prioritize tasks that deliver the most business impact

What the job involves
- Babylist is looking for a passionate Fullstack Staff Software Engineer to join our Babylist Health team
- Launched in October 2022, Babylist Health provides a more user-friendly and transparent way for people to purchase a breast pump through insurance with incredible opportunities to broaden offerings for pregnancy, child, and new parent health in the future
- This distributed team is responsible for scaling the technical systems and creating a user-friendly storefront that will support Babylist Health’s goals
- You will also work on new strategic initiatives to expand the health offerings as we grow this business
- As part of the team, you will lead business critical projects and make important decisions about how our systems grow and scale
- Collaborate closely with our Product team to lead creation of new features in health, including product education and comparison tools, automating user support flows, and expanding our offerings of goods and services via health insurance
- Architect and lead execution of team cycle projects
- Mentor other team members through design and architecture planning, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions
- Demonstrate strong systems thinking and curiosity, identifying opportunities to improve our product, technical systems, or ways of working
- Build systems to scale Babylist Health to $200M in revenue and beyond over the next 3 years
- Become a subject matter expert within our health services, defining how these services and features will grow and scale
Our take
Since its 2011 launch, Babylist has grown into one of the most highly rated baby registries in the US. The difference it offers is that it allows users to include products from any store in their registries. On top of this, the company’s model also focuses heavily on creating informational content, which allows it to generate ad revenue while building customer loyalty.
Originally scaled with fairly low venture funding, Babylist claims half of new parents in the US now use its services. This, given that the baby products industry is worth close to $90 billion, shows the company's immense growth and speaks to the impact it has made in the space.
Babylist has seen strong funding in the past, which has fuelled projects such as the launch of virtual showrooms and further expanded the company's presence. The company acquired Expectful, a health and wellness tool, in 2023 with the long-term vision of combining the two companies into a larger health and wellness media property that can help people navigate all aspects of parenthood from fertility to diapers.
