Role
Who you are
- Previous experience in customer analysis and/or financial planning, ideally in retail
- Strong Microsoft Excel Skills
- Experience using SQL and ideally Python/R
- Strong Analytical skills with the ability to effectively communicate relevant insights to the wider business
- Degree level or equivalent
- A curious mindset; driving understanding and action rather than simply providing answers
- Strong communication skills and an ability to positively express opinions and affect change
- Strong data storytelling skills; able to simplify a complex story for senior stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate across teams
What the job involves
- In this role, you will use data to build a picture of our customers’ shopping behaviours to understand the factors involved in winning and retaining valuable customers
- You will help us to design the strategy and objectives required to deliver our growth ambitions, through improving the health and value of our customer base
- You will then help us track and understand performance against that plan, and drive action required to either correct course or grasp new opportunities
- Support Finance and Marketing teams with forecasting and budgeting, using relevant analysis, metrics and modelling
- Set and monitor key business objectives around customer acquisition, retention and value with a clear link to business performance
- Work with the wider Trading Analytics team to understand how these metrics are influencing current business performance, including diagnosing any problems and recommending actions
- Identify key customer attributes and behaviours that lead to higher lifetime value, and translate these into clear actions & recommendations for change
- Regularly communicate with other analysts across the business to share best practices in analytics and reporting
- Work with our Business Intelligence team to design and improve actionable, insightful reporting

Initially set up as a mail order company in 1991, Boden has since become a major UK fashion brand specialising in quality clothing designed to stand the test of time. They have 2 million active customers worldwide, and have attracted high profile buyers including Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama, and Holly Willoughby.
Previously relying on catalogue sales, they were unable to achieve the real time responsiveness vital in today’s retail industry. As a result, in the past few years Boden’s heavily invested in modernising their IT systems and created a new way to capture data on their site. Having adapted to changing consumer behaviours, now 95% of their sales happen online, enabling them to compete with the growing number of eCommerce competitors like ME + EM and Mint Velvet.
This new digital approach has not been their only success in recent years. Traditionally, many UK retailers have failed to gain a foothold in the US. However, the company’s quintessential British branding has successfully set them apart, leading to Boden’s US sales already overtaking those in the UK and the business continues to grow faster there.
Moving forwards, Boden is overcoming a 2023 dip in sales triggered by an unneeded menswear revamp that lost sight of its core customer base. It is now reverting back to its classic formula and planning on further expansion in the US, determined to double sales in the next few years.
