Staff-level engineering experience and impact

What the job involves

DevX owns engineering velocity at Amplitude: build systems, CI/CD, developer environments, and internal tooling. We're building a software factory: automated workflows that remove manual bottlenecks from how engineers ship code
We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer who bridges infrastructure and application thinking and can accelerate how the whole team develops, tests, and ships in the cloud. You'll set architecture for our developer platform, lead our software factory work, and push our development model toward cloud-first workflows
This is a high-leverage, low-oversight role. You'll own initiatives end to end, from an ambiguous problem to production, and set technical direction for a foundational team
Cloud development platform: Unify and scale our existing local, remote, and ephemeral development environments across a polyglot codebase. Make it fast and reliable for engineers and AI agents to provision environments, build, test, debug, and validate changes, with reproducible test data and clear access controls
Software factory: Find the biggest bottleneck in the engineering workflow, automate it, then move to the next one. This increasingly means building the sandboxes and tooling that let AI agents do the work directly, not just assist with it
Developer experience & tooling: Own build systems, CI/CD, developer environments, and internal tooling. Drive down build/CI time, deploy risk, and feedback latency
Technical leadership: Set direction and standards, turn ambiguous problems into roadmaps, and mentor senior/staff engineers through design review and pairing

Our take

Amplitude provides product analytics to help companies understand user behaviour. Product, marketing, and growth teams use Amplitude to discover and share insights about user engagement, retention, and revenue.

Amplitude’s user flows reveal which actions are the most commonly taken after users sign up, and which usually precede purchases made in-app, creating paths through the app. The behaviour of individual app users can be viewed with unlimited real-time activity feeds and user timelines.

Thousands of companies use Amplitude analytics, including Microsoft, Under Armour, Intuit, Twitter, Bonobos, Peloton, and many more. In 2024, a securities fraud case was filed against Amplitude due to an IPO and stock share rise that was alleged to be artificially inflated before their downturn in 2022. The case has since been resolved, and Amplitude continues to release new products and operate at full capacity.
