I've been tasked with challenging but engaging problems, and given the autonomy and freedom to choose the tech to solve them. Being a smaller company, we are growing fast and so there will always be new challenges to solve.

We are able to allocate time and resources into our career development. That can take the form of picking up a piece of work which is new to you and being given the time and support for learning as you go, or setting aside time to go through online courses which interest you.

After many years in banking and insurance I decided that I want to invest my time to something more meaningful, helpful. It should be either education or healthcare. And here we go! Starting from very first interview with HoD I was surprised how open and hones company was in terms of what goes well and where I can help to improve. Many of those pain-points were already actioned, some still require our attention, but being able to speak honestly about good and bad across all the levels and being sure that you were heard, makes me feel better. Open honest retros, regular "All hands" and one-o-ones are more then enough for me to know about company and company to know about me

At a high level the companies goals are regularly communicated to all employees, as well as the reasons for setting those goals. In software development it's important that all team members can have their voices heard, without judgement. Discussions and feedback are encouraged at any time. My manager and senior colleague are incredibly supportive! My manager checks in regularly on my progress and how I'm doing with my work. My senior colleague has provided an in-depth onboarding form and proactively organises calls to assist my work and provide encouragement. The company has also set aside a budget for career progression courses.

The team works very well to encourage one another in their work. Feedback is provided in a friendly manner and deadlines (when missed) are viewed sympathetically.

Although HeliosX's main office is in central London, the company has successfully moved to hybrid/virtual work. I have managed to do my work virtually (and for the foreseeable future) which has helped my work/life balance immensely.
