Role
Who you are
- 4-year technical degree (or equivalent work experience)
- 2+ years software development experience
- Experience using React to build feature-rich user interfaces
- Deep understanding of JavaScript fundamentals
- Experience working with design systems and building styled, reusable components
- Experience with automated frontend testing patterns such as Jest / Playwright
- Demonstrated background / interest in investment management
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to execute in a fast-paced startup environment
- Excellent communication skills and grace under pressure
What the job involves
- Software Engineers at Opto are tasked with the challenge of turning complex business problems into elegant and pragmatic engineering solutions. We are context-driven, customer- and stakeholder-empathetic builders of tools and systems
- We are end-to-end owners of engineering problems and solutions who constantly challenge one another to evolve as builders and collaborators. Oh, and we have fun along the way, because otherwise, what's the point?
- Our tech stack consists of a series of React-based Next.js Typescript applications hosted in Vercel. Behind that a collection of Aurora-backed Python REST API services are hosted as containerized applications in AWS
- We make use of AWS Lambda for asynchronous tasks and we rely on Snowflake for data ingestion and warehousing. Our service deployments are completely automated and execute multiple times daily. Our tech stack continues to evolve, driven by our shared principles of optimizing for modularity, scalability, and team-level service ownership
- Be accountable for the delivery of high quality software projects in coordination with teammates and stakeholders on mutually agreed upon timelines
- Seek context and rapidly iterate on solutions to eliminate ambiguity and drive projects forward
- Participate actively in all phases of product development across specification, implementation, QA testing, deployment, and operations
- Foster a culture of collaboration by actively engaging in discussions, documentation, and code review
- Participate actively in engineering recruiting (interviewing, problem specification, role ownership, etc)
- Raise your hand when you need help - don’t hesitate to reach out to stakeholders (product, teammates, managers, etc) to unblock your progress
Our take
For investment advisors looking to put together strong portfolios for clients, private investments represent a vast and attractive section of the market. However, these assets remain underused, with advisors having on average only 0-4% of their wealth invested in them, due in part to restricted access and lack of appropriate resources. Opto Investments enables Registered Investment Advisors to “level up” their practices, by providing access and insight into the private investment market.
Traditionally, access to private investments has been restricted to those with large teams of specialists who are able to assess the market and fill out the too-often convoluted paperwork. Opto Investment supplies a platform which combines these processes, allowing RIAs to explore the private market landscape and turns insights into actionable investments. The process is managed from start to finish, incorporating client goals throughout, with the company leading advisors from sourcing and diligence all the way to investor servicing and reporting.
Opto Investments has already partnered with over 80 Registered Investment Advisors, and it has raised huge amounts of funding. The company will use these funds to secure further investment opportunities for customers, scale its business and hire additional talent.
