Role
Who you are
- You have 2- 3 years of work experience
- You have 1+ years of partnership management and cross-departmental experience
- You have experience working in marketing or experience supporting marketing teams
- You excel at tracking multiple projects in different stages of completion and progress and managing deliverables without intervention
- You understand working with partners from different cultural backgrounds, including Japanese business culture
- You like to learn new things and are open to new challenges to handle tasks outside your comfort zone
- You like implementing efficiency into your workflow
- Bachelor’s degree
- You ideally have some Japanese (reading/writing/speaking) to communicate with Japanese-speaking partners
- You are willing to travel to support events 2-3x a year
What the job involves
- The (Contract) Associate Brand Manager enables brands and licensors to succeed in our streaming and other omnichannel experiences
- You will be an essential partner between our licensors and teams to promote and enable marketing collaborations and events
- Know your assigned brands thoroughly to enable marketing collaborations that resonate with the brand
- Be the primary contact for the brand’s licensor for requests, provide periodic updates for new and existing brands to each partner, and update changes to the exploitation strategy and rationale behind the change
- Oversee the exploitation and use of the brand’s likeness by coordinating internal and external approvals with Licensors
- Coordinate marketing promotions for respective Licensors and their associated talent at events/conventions
- Document team processes on Confluence and keep existing documentation updated
- Pull and compile data and other reporting metrics while collaborating with other departments for content partners on a regular and ad hoc basis
- Support the Brand Management team with several administrative and operational responsibilities and daily operations
- As a (Contract) Associate Brand Manager, you will report to the Brand Manager
- The Brand Management team is instrumental in ensuring the growth and engagement of our streaming platforms and other omnichannels
- These platforms must appeal to licensors and their representatives, maintain credibility with our audiences, and set industry standards
- The close collaboration with creators and licensors in Japan and our global teams in marketing, communications, content, business development, and product management allows us to cater to a world-class anime experience for our global anime fans!

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
