Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of programming experience in mobile (React Native preferred)
- 9+ years of software development experience
- Experience with GraphQL and REST
- Experience as a technical owner of an application, or significantly sized component of an application
- Experience working with UX component frameworks
- Track record of helping set technical direction for a team, driving consensus, and successful cross-functional partnerships
- Experience building and shipping high quality work and achieving high reliability
- Experience improving quality through thoughtful code reviews, appropriate testing, proper rollout, monitoring, etc
Desirable
- Experience as a Staff Software Engineer
- Experience with location tracking libraries and implementation
- Experience writing and maintaining GitHub Actions build plans
- Experience writing Appium test cases
- A strong communicator and collaborator
- Passionate about improving healthcare access and outcomes

- Mobile development in React Native publishing to the App Store and the Play Store
- Integrate with a GraphQL and REST based back end
- Collaborate with QA to ensure that the app is testable, whether it’s manual or automated testing
- Help establish and implement a strong and consistent mobile architecture within our applications
- Work closely with developers in other layers of the tech stack (e.g. back end, platform) to implement meaningful features for our Papas and Pals
- Work closely and effectively with Product and Design to define feature specifications, scope projects, and provide context for good decision making
- Exercise a high level of ownership and technical independence to improve our apps and service overall
- Act as a mobile SME, advocating for mobile specific needs within the engineering team and help drive technical excellence in the mobile development discipline
Our take
Loneliness is a major problem for the ageing population, and Papa is the first platform dedicated to providing clinical care and friendship to older people. With 50% of older people considering themselves lonely, the company provides a solution to people who don’t need medical care but would benefit from companionship.
“Papa Pals” are matched with elderly users via the network and assist in basic tasks whilst providing friendship and fun. They might help with housework or technical difficulties, take the elderly person to appointments, or just spend time with them. Papa has also started to provide virtual care and chronic care management, and expanded its offering to help families too.
Papa was founded in 2017 and quickly expanded to 50 US states. It provides a strict vetting process to ensure the system is safe for its users. Further, the company's recent partnership with Uber to provide rides for its users is also an example of the strategic moves it is making to offer a comprehensive service.
