Role
Who you are
- Strong analytical skills with an enquiring mind and able to challenge status quo
- Excellent capability in Excel modelling and use of Big Data
- Previous experience of working in FP&A or Commercial Finance with online retail experience desirable
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with experience of working in an FP&A team
- Ability to influence and confidence to challenge stakeholders across the business working at multiple levels and communicating financial results appropriately to the relevant audience
What the job involves
- You will be a big part of the FP&A team that prepares all financial plans, monthly Exec and Board reports and regular analysis
- You will also provide business partnering support to key business stakeholders
- Support the FP&A manager with the preparation of budgets and in year forecasts, working collaboratively with the broader Commercial Finance team. This includes annual financial plans, rolling forecasts and long-term strategic planning
- Develop an integrated planning methodology such that all key financial statements can be produced at each planning cycle
- Prepare scenario and sensitivity analysis as required
- Support the preparation of monthly Board reports, analyse any risks and opportunities and support the business with remedial or development plans
- Work with individuals and teams to ensure a commercial mindset, understand the economics of the business and help teams to drive most value into the business
- Partner with a specific area in the business to provide the Exec and Directors with a single point of contact for all financial matters
- Provide insight into the area’s performance and work with the business area to build budgets, forecasts and evaluate new initiatives and projects
- Work on ad hoc projects as agreed with the Head of Commercial Finance or FP&A Manager. Eg competitor analysis, investor relations and profitability analysis. Ensure all projects are managed and delivered on time and to high quality levels

They have 2 million active customers worldwide, and have attracted high profile buyers including Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama, and Holly Willoughby.
Previously relying on catalogue sales, they were unable to achieve the real time responsiveness vital in today’s retail industry. As a result, in the past few years Boden’s heavily invested in modernising their IT systems and created a new way to capture data on their site. Having adapted to changing consumer behaviours, now 95% of their sales happen online, enabling them to compete with the growing number of eCommerce competitors like ME + EM and Mint Velvet.
This new digital approach has not been their only success in recent years. Traditionally, many UK retailers have failed to gain a foothold in the US. However, the company’s quintessential British branding has successfully set them apart, leading to Boden’s US sales already overtaking those in the UK and the business continues to grow faster there.
Moving forwards, Boden is overcoming a 2023 dip in sales triggered by an unneeded menswear revamp that lost sight of its core customer base. It is now reverting back to its classic formula and planning on further expansion in the US, determined to double sales in the next few years.
