Role
Who you are
- We are looking for someone with a keen eye for proper systems architecture, who understands how to design for scale, and who is excited about building something from scratch for the first time
- 3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology!
- 5+ years of professional experience in software development
- Experience with backend web frameworks such as Flask or Django
- Experience with frontend web frameworks such as React or Next.js
- Experience writing applications which interact with SQL databases and non-relational databases
- Experience designing fluid user interfaces from sketch to production
Desirable
- Prior experience architecting and implementing a custom ERP, MRP, MES, CRM, e-commerce, logistics, warehouse management, fleet management, or similar complex software system
- Experience training, deploying, and maintaining AI/ML tools on enterprise datasets
- Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from concept, detailed architectural design, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery, and maintenance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field

- In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to architect and implement custom enterprise software using the latest and greatest in web-tech
- The system you develop will provide a completely novel solution for how we provide traceability and execute the metal printing process at a truly global scale across thousands of customers and millions of parts (and massive amounts of data!)
- Your work will be at the heart of how Freeform operates as a company and powers our business’s operating system
- Architect and implement a state-of-the-art enterprise software platform to seamlessly integrate Freeform’s business processes from sales to manufacturing
- Develop applications to track the end-to-end lifecycle of millions of parts across thousands of customers around the world
- Work cross-functionally with other engineering and operations disciplines to gather requirements and solve problems with your code
- Design highly scalable and resilient systems to meet Freeform’s high bar for quality, reliability, and security
- Maintain accessibility and integrity of the backend data model to enable easy access for business intelligence users
- Design and develop intuitive user interfaces with a focus on functionality over aesthetics to increase system usability
- Act as both engineer and product owner—scoping features, managing schedules, and delivering results
Our take
There is a huge amount of demand for precision metal fabrication in future-focused industries such as rocketry and vehicle manufacturing, but legacy production techniques are too slow and inflexible to meet the requirements of rapidly changing designs in the most innovative firms. Enter Freeform Future, a company which builds metal 3D printing factories to allow manufacturers to swiftly and efficiently go from idea to mass production.
Founded by engineers with extensive experience at SpaceX, Freeform seeks to replace existing metal fabrication works - typified with heavy reliance on manual labour and legacy processes - with 3D printers and automated software technologies. Rather than needing to train a large workforce on production techniques, Freeform will be able to print almost any metal item at production scale on demand, with a turnaround time of days rather than weeks.
Though having only emerged from stealth in 2023, Freeform has some large-scale customers including autonomous trucking firm Embark and rocket part manufacturer, Ursa Major. After raising significant funding in early 2023, the company is moving from prototype to production, scaling up its operations to meet the growing demand for rapidly produced, high-quality metal components.
