Role
Who you are
- Leverage 5+ years of experience in fast-paced environments, combined with a charismatic, street-smart nature demonstrate in previous roles in consulting or start-ups/scale-ups (prioritizing the match with the role over past experience)
- Apply proven leadership experience, e.g. building and overseeing teams, setting direction, and empowering others to achieve their best
- Lead complex enterprise accounts through the sales process, providing clarity and strategic direction to decision-makers
- Demonstrate a hands-on mentality, thriving in imperfect and fast-changing environments
- Demonstrate fluency in German and English, with a deep understanding of German culture and local business dynamics
- Be based in Berlin
What the job involves
- Lead Root's growth in Germany by managing local teams, closing deals with key processors, fostering relationships with key stakeholders across the industry, and exploring new opportunities within untapped verticals
- Over the next months you wil:
- Lead the execution of the GTM strategy in Germany to grow Root's presence, focusing on further market penetration, maximizing revenue within key accounts, and identifying new opportunities for expansion into untapped market segments
- Close deals and manage key processors in Germany by closely working with them to understand their needs, building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels (incl. farmers, executives, and government employees), and participating in key industry events and fairs
- Align, manage, and build the teams responsible for German clients, ensuring efficient and effective execution of their tasks to achieve the desired results
- Align proactively with the co-founder (Maurice Hensl) and other European country leads on progress in Germany, sharing market insights, individual market characteristics, and best practices
- Mentor new and existing team members and foster a culture of continuous learning within the company

Our take
Food chains are responsible for anywhere between 20% and 30% of global greenhouse emissions, and it’s something businesses can’t sweep under the rug any longer. Tightening regulations require that businesses disclose their climate performance - and stakeholders and customers are paying close attention. Bad climate practices are increasingly bad for business, and Root Global is looking to help businesses keep their performance up.
The Root software platform is designed to help food and beverage companies shoot for a zero-carbon future, by offering what Root hopes will become an industry-wide carbon operating system. Essentially, a database providing full life-cycle carbon emission data so businesses can make climate practise decisions based on accurate, comprehensive data - instead of the current system of upstream and downstream estimates.
This could prove a highly valuable proposition. Increasingly large numbers of companies are setting science-based climate targets, but research suggests the majority of these are distant, imprecise, or lack actionable road maps to get there. So solid carbon accounting software is in urgent demand, and if Root can build out the client base necessary for industry-wide coverage, it stands to make a substantial impact.
