Role
Who you are
- Experience working asynchronously as part of a fully remote, distributed team
- A passion for creating intuitive, accessible, and visually engaging user interfaces that solve customer problems using AI-driven approaches
- Expertise in modern front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar frameworks
- Experience in building and optimizing front-end performance for scalable, large-scale web applications
- A keen eye for UI/UX design principles and collaboration with designers to bring mockups and prototypes to life
- Familiarity with front-end testing frameworks (e.g. Cypress) and a commitment to writing maintainable and testable code
- A strong ability to make trade-offs between delivering features quickly and maintaining long-term front-end architecture quality
- Proficiency in reading and writing English, with strong communication skills
- Have worked on AI-powered user interfaces or data-heavy applications that leverage machine learning or large language models (LLMs)
- Have 4 - 10 years of experience as a software engineer
- Minimum requirement of bachelor's degree in a related field (computer science, computer engineering, etc.) OR completed enrollment in engineering related bootcamp
Desirable
- Have experience with front-end performance optimization techniques, including lazy loading, code splitting, and caching strategies
- Have experience with design systems and component libraries, ensuring consistency across large-scale applications
- Are familiar with GraphQL or REST APIs and how to efficiently interact with backend services in a front-end context
- Have contributed to or maintained open-source front-end libraries or frameworks
What the job involves
- We help organizations build a mature Analytics Development Lifecycle (ADLC), and dbt Cloud is at the heart of this journey
- The AI team’s mission is to develop AI-powered tooling that enhances each stage of the ADLC
- Our goal is to seamlessly embed AI throughout dbt Cloud, enabling users to leverage cutting-edge AI technology to transform data workflows, drive insights, and automate processes
- As part of our AI team, you will partner closely with product development teams to design, build, and implement AI features that will shape the future of data-driven decision-making
- Be part of a small, innovative team to build AI-powered, customer-facing features in dbt Cloud
- Work closely with product designers and product managers to create beautiful, intuitive, and efficient user interfaces
- Lead the development of front-end experiences that leverage AI to enhance the user experience throughout the Analytics Development Lifecycle (ADLC)
- Continuously improve the performance, accessibility, and scalability of front-end applications to deliver a seamless experience for dbt Cloud users
- Engage directly with users and internal stakeholders to iterate quickly on designs, prototypes, and final products
- Advocate for best practices in front-end development and ensure that all code is well-structured, maintainable, and tested
- Experiment with new front-end technologies and AI tools to push the boundaries of what’s possible within the product

Our take
In 2018, dbt Labs founder Tristan Handy was running an analytics company and created a data build tool (or ‘dbt’) to help transform data for analysis. Fast forward one year and dbt Labs was born, offering its tools to help companies everywhere transform their data workflows.
Raw data comes in myriad forms and dbt Labs’ software allows data specialists to manage the data transformation layer making its use for analysis much easier. It offers consulting services on top of the software, and has ridden a wave of companies embracing digital transformation more as their services and workplaces become more online.
Seen as the defacto standard for modern analytics engineering by many, it reached unicorn status within 2 years of launch and is focusing future efforts on expanding reach more markets outside of the US. Its recent acquisition of Transform, an analytics engineering company, will aid in further developing its product's data transformation capabilities.
