France’s LegalTech sector is booming relative to the rest of the world, enjoying high growth. Doctrine is performing particularly well within it, high labour costs, and a difficult financial climate for this sector means few legaltech startups make it to Series A funding. This means Doctrine have made it to a neat and potentially highly lucrative market niche, and given its regionally specific expertise it’s not one they’re likely to see threatened by international competitors.

The most popular legaltech tools, like Westlaw Edge and Lex Machina, perform similar productivity-enhancing functions when it comes to document research and case review, so Doctrine is smart to be championing this in France and Europe. However, cautious French regulators still impost restrictions on judicial analytics (particularly around nudge profiling) which may limit certain innovations. That said, Doctrine's expansion into other European jurisdictions could provide it with more regulatory headroom and room to grow.
