Who you are

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems/IT, or an engineering discipline
5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Infrastructure Engineering type roles
Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments
Deep expertise with AWS services and architectures, particularly around containerization, orchestration, and networking
Proven experience designing and implementing cloud-native architectures, microservices, and distributed systems
Proficiency with infrastructure as code tools (AWS CDK, Terraform, or similar)
Development experience in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript)
Must be able to obtain Secret or Top-Secret clearance

Desirable

AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional)
Proficiency in Go, Python, or JavaScript/Typescript, with API development experience
Experience implementing GitOps practices in large-scale production environments
Deep knowledge of Linux distributions and their management at scale
Knowledge of multiple cloud providers and their architectural differences (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc)
Experience deploying complex and scalable infrastructure solutions
Experience building infrastructure control planes using Crossplane or similar frameworks
Experience enabling continuous deployment for large scale application suites with tools like ArgoCD

What the job involves

As a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll architect and scale the internal developer platform that enables our engineering teams to deploy spacecraft control systems, autonomous satellite operations, and mission-critical applications with speed and confidence
Our team’s mission is to enable Turion engineers to efficiently and reliably deliver products at scale, and support missions that can’t afford downtime when hardware is operating hundreds of miles above Earth
You’ll create the infrastructure for a self-service platform that is as reliable and cutting-edge as the spacecraft it supports
Deploy and manage core infrastructure components including microservices, databases, and supporting services
Design and implement improvements to our container orchestration platform
Develop abstraction layers that enable infrastructure portability across different deployment targets
Build and optimize reusable infrastructure components and templates for consistent cross-environment deployments
Define and implement standardized deployment patterns and workflows
Collaborate with other engineering teams to understand their requirements and translate them into functional cloud solutions with industry best practices
Identify operational bottlenecks and architect innovative solutions that maximize system availability and reliability

Our take

To empower critical space missions, Turion Space builds and operates DROID Satellites that its clients can control through the company's operating system (known as Starfire).

The idea behind Turion's approach is to simplify satellite operations by making them non-configurable, instead handling day-to-day operations itself. In this way, the company helps its clients to eliminate friction between platform and bus suppliers, which can hinder the potential of missions.

To support the expansion of its operations, which include non-earth imaging, space debris removal and satellite servicing, the company has raised strategic funding. This positions it well to move towards its goal of producing 45 satellites annually by 2027.
