Role
Who you are
- Tech expertise. Comfortable designing and maintaining software in technologies like .Net and Python. Other technologies used are Node.js, AWS and PostgreSQL
- Microservices experience. Knowledgeable with microservices architecture in high throughput cloud environments
- Relevant experience. Ideally experience working with external services eg. weather, market interfacings, and bid placings
- Adaptability. You should enjoy and understand that there are some things that can't be done proactively, you will sometimes need to be reactive as rules/regulations can change quickly in our industry
- Industry expertise. Understanding the energy industry is a bonus
- Culturally in sync. Curious and collaborative mindset with a bold yet humble approach to engineering
What the job involves
- In the Trading Squad, we trade power and control fleets of devices in a way that lowers costs for customers, generates revenue for Tibber, and helps the grid take on more renewable energy generators
- You will be working with traders, data scientists, and other backend engineers to make sure we have the right software in place to support our mission and help innovate the future of smart energy usage
- We’re now on a quest for a Backend Engineer for our Trading squad! You will help us build and maintain the best possible software for energy trading, lowering our customer's costs while enabling a smarter and lower carbon energy system for everyone
- You should be adaptable to either work on our grid rewards program (https://tibber.com/en/homevolt) or the operational side of our trading squad (building smarter trading tools
- Ability to build and maintain relevant services and tools. Our Trading squad builds its own in-house tools eg. forecasting tool. You should be able to build resilient services around external services that might fail
- Stakeholder management. You will work closely with our Data Scientists and with large volumes of data as well as our wider Trading Squad
- Engineering contribution. As part of Engineering at Tibber, we always strive to further develop how we work with everything from tooling to architecture and collaboration. You’re expected to take part in that development
Our take
The average household today is in a position to purchase electricity from a range of suppliers, but classically will only buy from one. Tibber supplies an AI for households to purchase energy from a number of suppliers, at the best prices at the best time of day, to reduce their electricity costs, alongside helping them to reduce usage in their homes.
The platform was built as a response to outdated utility management tools. Users access the service via an app, with the AI purchasing electricity automatically at the lowest possible price, as well as alerting customers to consume energy during the cheapest hours of the day.
The Tibber hub for smart homes is able to connect various energy sources, such as solar panels and EV chargers, to enable more intelligent electricity production as well as consumption. The company has seen huge amounts of investment, serves hundreds of thousands of households, and has its sights set on continued expansion across Europe.
