Who you are
- 7+ years of professional product design experience
- Previous work experience designing financial products
- A passion for turning complex problems into simple and engaging solutions
- A natural understanding of the end-to-end design process - from identifying customer needs, jobs-to-be-done and pain points to delivering exceptional customer experiences
- Ability to connect the dots across the entire customer ecosystem both on and off our products
- You actively plan, scope, and create work that contributes to a larger, long-term plan
- A portfolio of work on which you were the primary designer, with moderate guidance from design leadership
- Articulate high-level team goals and connect your work to larger team or company initiative
Desirable
- Experience in customer journey mapping and strategic design to complement design foundations
- Familiarity in creating interactive prototypes
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Product Designer to join our growing design team. Our product designers take a product, feature, or experience from ideation to production
- This includes vision setting, designing solutions, prototyping, bringing along cross-functional teams, overseeing implementation, and collaborating with other designers, researchers, writers, product managers, analysts, and engineers
- As a Product Designer at Tidal, you will drive design execution for one of our newest product areas, leading the development of a Financial product focused on helping artists making a living through their art
- Drive the strategy and position of your product area
- Plan, scope, and create work that contributes to a larger, long-term plan
- Communicate your ideas and work to your direct team and other teams
- Work with other designers and partners to integrate your product area with the larger TIDAL’s ecosystem
- Drive execution of your product area in its entirety
- Work on challenging, wide-reaching projects for your team

Our take
Block is a financial services technology company comprising of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD. Its biggest brand, Square, offers hardware and software for small to medium-sized businesses enabling them to manage the entire payment lifecycle. It functions similarly to Shopify and Stripe, but has paired online payment processing with physical devices such as registers, payment terminals, and mobile card readers.
The business was originally founded as Square in 2009 by Jack Dorsey of Twitter fame. Already well-established with SMEs all over the globe, Square has significantly benefited from the increased demand for mobile payment systems. Its order management feature remains a go-to tool for small businesses that otherwise didn't have the proper infrastructure in place when demand for home delivery surged.
Square rebranded as Block in December 2021, with the Square brand name remaining in place for their seller business. The company has since come under fire for its security practices, facing lawsuits in relation to a major breach of CashApp user data, and in 2024 announced plans to reduce its workforce in order to cut costs. Despite these setbacks, there is every chance the business will move past this, though it may take some time to rebuild trust in its product.
