Who you are
- Are you an engineer at heart? Someone who wants to take responsibility for the largest streaming guide in the world and the platform that powers it?

- Several years of engineering experience
- Experience in Golang (development, not just SRE topics), Kubernetes, and containerised cloud infrastructure
- Experience operating large-scale systems and databases
- Project management basics. We keep the structure lightweight, but you should have delivered at least one large project
- Located in Berlin or close enough in Brandenburg to collaborate in the office at least twice a week
What the job involves
- We’re JustWatch. Boring technology, hard problems. Golang, VueJS, Postgres, Kubernetes, Prometheus on GCP
- We use more specialised tools where we need them. We’re searching for an engineer who follows first principles and focuses on business value over elaborate processe
- You place bets and end up with more wins than fails. Wherever you fail, you own it and learn from it in a blameless culture
- You lead with a service attitude, honest communication, and a pragmatic mindset
- You won’t grow the number of direct reports just to fill a management char
- You’ll lead a small team of SREs and level up their game. Your mindset is to grow the company. The rest follows naturally
- This isn’t a 9-to-5 job. While you’ll find one of the smoothest-running shops with around one hundred fully observable services in production, things will go down occasionally, and it’ll be your job to coordinate incident response
- You can stay on the fine line between promoting cutting-edge technology to developers and running a stable ship when in doubt. You’re not waiting to be told how an engineering platform should look; you tell us
- We love challenging goals. We question everything. We’re always learning, and we execute with excellence. We believe in the 80/20 rule and apply common sense and pragmatism to everything
- Contribute to the architecture and code base. This is not a 100% managerial role; everyone at JustWatch gets their hands dirty
- Lead a small team that operates the largest streaming guide in the world
- Own the continuous operation of the platform, including full responsibility for budget and KPIs
- Own incident response from paging to postmortem
- Build the roadmap and the future of the JustWatch development platform

Our take
For years, JustWatch served as a global streaming guide, simplifying the search for shows across platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. On top of this, it leveraged user data to run targeted movie marketing campaigns.
However, in the 2020s, JustWatch introduces a significant upgrade. Following in the footsteps of Plex and Reelgood, users can now seamlessly search, access, and receive recommendations from all their streaming services within a single app.
Remarkably, despite minimal external funding since its 2014 inception, JustWatch has expanded into approximately 130 markets with a team exceeding a hundred members. As the streaming services market becomes increasingly diverse and fragmented, JustWatch finds itself in a promising position to capitalize on these developments.
