Role
Who you are
- 12+ years of professional experience in iOS development, with a portfolio of iOS/tvOS applications published on the App Store
- Proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, with a deep understanding of iOS/tvOS frameworks such as UIKit, Core Data, and Core Animation
- Familiarity with architecture patterns such as MVVM (Model-View-View-Model) and experience implementing them in iOS/tvOS applications
- Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as XCTest or Quick/Nimble, and a commitment to writing tests for all code changes
- Record of success with applications, games, and utilities for iOS/tvOS
- Quality first mindset: Demonstrates a strong commitment to code quality, reliability, and maintainability in all aspects of software development
- Knowledge of Combine framework for reactive programming and experience integrating it into iOS/tvOS applications
- Experience with RESTful APIs and networking protocols
- Experience providing technical guidance in previous roles
- Working knowledge with iOS/tvOS, common iOS app architectures and design patterns
- Experience with development for memory- and performance-limited devices in a multithreaded environment
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

What the job involves
- In the role of Staff Software Engineer, Apple, you will report to the Engineering Manager, iOS
- This is a hybrid role (3 days in the office per week) for the location of Los Angeles or San Fransisco
- As a Staff Software Engineer focused on iOS, you will be a senior technical leader within the Apple organization, driving the development of high-quality, scalable, and performant experiences for our iOS users
- You’ll lead architectural decisions across the iOS codebase, establish implementation best practices, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver features that delight users and elevate engineering standards
- Your work will play a critical role in shaping the fan experience on iOS and influence broader native platform strategies
- As one of the most senior engineers on the team, your technical leadership will help guide the future of our Apple platform development

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
