Who you are
- The position requires analytical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively
- Analytical Skills: This is paramount – the ability to dissect complex financial data, identify trends, forecast outcomes, and provide strategic insights
- Financial Modeling: Advanced proficiency in building robust financial models is a core requirement
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel and/or Google Sheets proficiency, alongside familiarity with financial software and business intelligence tools
- Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking: The ability to proactively identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and make informed decisions under pressure
- Accounting Knowledge: A strong understanding of financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement) and accounting principles (IFRS, GAAP where applicable)
- Attention to Detail & Accuracy: Given the nature of financial data, meticulousness is essential
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication to present complex financial information clearly and concisely to all levels of the organization
- Commercial Acumen: Understanding how financial data impacts the overall business strategy and market position
- Adaptability & Resilience: The financial environment can be fast-paced with tight deadlines
What the job involves
- Our Finance team is growing and we are looking for a highly proactive, enthusiastic and commercially-minded candidate to join our Finance team
- The Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing comprehensive financial insights to inform strategic decision-making
- This role involves analyzing financial data, creating sophisticated financial models, and delivering actionable recommendations
- Financial Modeling: You'll develop and maintain complex financial models to support business planning, forecasting, valuation, and decision-making processes
- Data Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential risks and opportunities. Provide insights into financial performance and strategy
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, ensuring alignment with company objectives
- Reporting: Prepare detailed financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for senior management and stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and clarity
- Scenario Analysis: Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate the financial impact of strategic initiatives, market changes, and investment opportunities
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including accounting, operations, and strategic planning, to gather data and validate assumptions
- Compliance and Standards: Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal financial policies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and best practices
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial modeling efficiency and accuracy

Monzo is a challenger bank that fully operates online and offers a full range of current, savings, business accounts, and more. The speed of the challenger banks to provide a great experience has been impressive, and the number of competitors appearing has proven the consumer desire for innovation.
Monzo remains one of the popular online banks, with more than 6 million active users. The company faces competition from more traditional banks, such as Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, which have launched their own digital banks. However, the new technologies that the company is built on enable it to expand quickly (with fewer issues) than the incumbent players' offerings.
With an increasing amount of people switching banks, the company's ever-expanding suite of banking and financial services (such as its buy-now-pay-later offering) has resulted in Monzo receiving the second-highest net switching gains among digital challenger banks (just behind Starling).
After setting U.S. expansion plans aside in 2020, the company launched in the U.S. market in early 2022, partnering with Sutton Bank to provide its U.S. accounts. After several years focused on narrowing its losses, Monzo hit profitability in the first two months of 2023. In the same year, 2 million new customers joined, tallying its customer base at 9 million in 2024.
