Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity, preferably in the fintech industry
- Hands-on experience with AWS security, networking, and architecture
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and best practices, such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, NIST 800, NIST CSF, ISO27001, and OWASP
- Experience with incident response, threat intelligence, and vulnerability management
- Familiarity with web application security and secure coding practices
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, or equivalent are preferred
What the job involves
- A Cybersecurity Engineer at AstroPay is responsible for safeguarding the company's information assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction, and disruption
- This role ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our data, systems, and networks
- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability scans, penetration testing, and security audits to identify and mitigate cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities in our AWS environment and applications
- Implement and maintain security controls and policies that comply with industry standards, such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, NIST 800, NIST CSF, ISO27001, and other cybersecurity frameworks
- Provide guidance and support to development teams to ensure secure coding practices and design secure applications that follow OWASP standards and best practices
- Monitor and analyze security logs and alerts to detect and respond to security incidents and breaches. Develop and execute incident response plans and procedures to contain and mitigate the impact of security incidents
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as IT, compliance, legal, and risk management, to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to cybersecurity
- Stay up-to-date with emerging cybersecurity threats, trends, and technologies, and recommend improvements to our security posture and strategy

Originally built as a digital solution for online purchases from foreign countries, AstroPay has since expanded to include a physical payment card as well as digital app services.
With over 200 payment methods and a commission-free service, AstroPay was a Latin American-founded company that has found its main market on that continent, competing with the likes of Monzo who have a hold on the digital payment industry in Europe. Despite AstroPay’s relative anonymity in England, the company has expanded its services to include cryptocurrency and in September 2022, partnered with Brazilian Huobi Global to enable this in Latin American nations.
As markets fluctuate in Latin America, cryptocurrency use has been on the rise, especially for younger generations. This has been promising for AstroPay’s recent expansions into the crypto market but has also drawn in large competitors such as Binance, adding more pressure for AstroPay to maintain its large client base.
