- If you’re excited about building systems from the ground up, solving complex marketplace problems, and making a measurable impact on the future of mental healthcare, we’d love to hear from you
- 8+ years of related professional software engineering experience building scalable distributed systems
- Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams and influencing technical strategy without direct authority
- Experience designing and building backend services, APIs, and data-intensive systems (AWS preferred)
- Experience partnering effectively with Product and Data to deliver business outcomes
- Experience solving complex marketplace, platform, or large-scale operational problems with measurable impact
- Strong communication skills with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders around a shared vision
- Experience driving projects end-to-end, from discovery and design through implementation, launch, and post-launch support
Desirable
- Start-up experience
- Experience developing SaaS applications using the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform
- Experience with “on-call”, ability to deep dive complex issues and drive them to resolution independently
- Experience with NodeJs, Typescript, Kafka
- Previous experience in products with high reliability/accuracy requirements

- At Rula, improving access to mental healthcare starts with building a healthy and efficient marketplace for both patients and providers
- We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the future of the Marketplace Health Engine, a foundational initiative focused on improving marketplace efficiency, provider utilization, and patient access at scale
- In this high-impact role, you will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Data, and Operations to design and deliver scalable systems that help identify and address marketplace challenges
- You will drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and influence key decisions across the Marketplace organization while remaining hands-on in software development

More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including United Healthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech-enabled mental health provision is rather overstuffed, with giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers set it apart. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. It also rebranded to emphasise its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
