Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of C# experience in performance-critical contexts
- Good understanding of the Windows OS
- Demonstrable evidence that you play or tinker with games, not just build software
- In-person: Looking to hire in NYC to contribute alongside the product team. 5 days in the office
- Ownership & attention to detail: You see things through, and can be responsible for end-to-end quality of complex features
- Code Performance: Excellent understanding of code performance implications in production and confident with profiling tools
- Be result-driven: Everything we do is driven by the metrics and performance of the feature. We move fast and ship regularly
- Measuring with metrics: Comfort with A/B testing and measuring results with usage metrics
- Gaming: A passion for games and the gaming communities, and a user of Discord and other gaming-adjacent products
- Bonus: C/C++ experience in performance-critical contexts
- Bonus: Graphics API experience, especially DX11, DX12 and Vulkan
- Bonus: Reverse engineering and hooking/injection experience
What the job involves
- The majority of work will involve deepening how our recorder interfaces with games
- For this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the integrations that interface directly with game engines and game-specific APIs by developing engine plugins (Unreal, Unity) to let us extract game-specific data and power features like auto clipping
- This is low-level, hands-on work: understanding how games work, writing engine plugins, reverse-engineering how games expose (or don't expose) the data we need, working with game APIs and log files to let us capture those magic moments without our users having to lift a finger
Our take
Video games have become highly social experiences due to multiplayer gaming, eSports and social media, spawning a huge market for audiences who enjoy watching gaming-related video content. Gamers commonly stream games and edit the footage to produce memes and engage with friends, but this requires many software tools and a separate platform on which to share experiences.
Medal provides a social platform for gaming video clips. It allows users to record and edit footage, make gaming memes, and share content with friends from one place. While the company competes with platform giants like Twitch, it stands out by being specifically designed for gaming content. It also collects in-game data to mitigate cheating and cyberbullying, and integrates directly into any Windows or Android game.
In 2025, Medal spun out "General Intuition", and has since been hiring to both its own and the new company's team. General Intuition's mission is to build a new class of models that can perceive, predict and act in both virtual and physical environments. It is leveraging Medal's vast datasets to this end, reducing the limitations on machine intelligence by training AI on interaction and exploration rather than just written words.
