Who you are

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff DevOps Engineer with expertise in both cloud and on-premises environments
10+ years of DevOps or cloud/on-prem engineering experience
Expert in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) with hands-on experience in on-premises infrastructure
Strong skills in infrastructure as code, automation, and configuration management (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, etc.)
Proficient in scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.)
Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
Deep understanding of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)
Proven leadership and mentoring experience
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Solutions Architects and Field Engineers
Passion for improving developer experience and enabling engineering productivity

Desirable

Cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect, etc.)
Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Datadog, etc.)
Familiarity with security best practices in hybrid environments

What the job involves

The Platform Tooling team is responsible for building and operating the platform that enables our engineers to ship software quickly, reliably, and safely
This team owns deployment automation, infrastructure provisioning/monitoring, and release processes that underpin our engineering organization's ability to deliver software to customers in GCP, AWS, Azure, and even self-hosted environments
In this role, you will architect, implement, and optimize scalable infrastructure solutions while leading automation, CI/CD, and deployment across hybrid platforms
You’ll mentor engineers, drive adoption of DevOps best practices, and champion a seamless developer experience by streamlining workflows and improving tooling
You will collaborate closely with Solutions Architects, Field Engineers, and product teams to deliver robust, integrated solutions tailored to customer needs

Our take

Weights & Biases (W&B) builds development tools for machine learning, helping businesses to create and use deep learning models. In order for deep learning to work, it’s necessary for companies to be able to monitor how the models are behaving as they are trained. With over 200,000 customers, W&B has differentiated itself from its competitors such as IBM Watson Studio and Valohai by focusing exclusively on machine learning practitioners and not on sales aspects of the technology, and by its competitive pricing.

The company has also launched a product to help different parties collaborate on machine learning models. This is geared at researchers, reducing the need for them to rerun their training examples repeatedly. Over time, this will help to move machine learning technology forward. What's more, W&B's technology is free for personal and academic use, which has fueled adoption enormously, and it is now being used by research institutions such as UC Berkeley and enterpise companies like Samsung and Salesforce.

The dependence on machine learning is growing as more and more companies begin to use artificial intelligence to handle business tasks, so demand for this sort of software is rising. Having raised substantial funding, W&B is moving to futher develop its product, grow its team and increase its marketing reach.
