Who you are

  • This is an opportunity for a highly analytical individual who is excited by solving tough operational problems and who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments
  • 5+ years in Data Analytics: Experience with data analysis in operational or logistics-heavy environments, such as e-commerce, retail, or distribution centre's
  • Proven Experience in Delivery & Warehouse Operations: Familiarity with the intricacies of last-mile delivery, logistics optimisation, and warehouse management
  • Expertise in SQL: Strong command of SQL for querying large datasets and developing complex, automated reports. Knowledge of Python or R is a plus
  • Tools Mastery: Experience with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI. Familiarity with dbt and DataBricks would be an asset
  • Strong Communicator: Ability to present complex data insights clearly and compellingly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Problem-Solver: You’re not afraid of diving into operational complexity, identifying challenges, and providing clear solutions that work on the ground
  • Curiosity and Drive: A passion for problem-solving and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. You’ll be excited to tackle operational pain points and make our systems better, faster, and more efficient

What the job involves

  • As a Lead Data Analyst, Operations, you will be at the forefront of transforming how our delivery and warehouse operations function. In this role, you’ll dive deep into the heart of our supply chain, logistics, and warehouse management to uncover insights that will streamline processes and improve efficiency
  • Our operations span multiple warehouses and delivery points, facing the daily challenges of managing fluctuating demand, optimizing delivery routes, reducing waste, and ensuring timely fulfillment
  • Drive Operational Efficiency: Analyse and enhance key metrics related to delivery times, warehouse capacity, order fulfilment, and logistics operations. Your insights will directly impact how we optimise our delivery operations to reduce delays, improve cost-efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction
  • Deep Dive into Warehouse Operations: Work closely with our operations team to ensure our warehouse functions are aligned with overall business goals. You'll investigate key areas such as stock inbounding and storage optimisation
  • Data at the Core: Build and maintain advanced data models that provide clarity and insight into complex operational challenges. You’ll be a key player in ensuring that data is accessible and actionable to drive day-to-day decision-making across our logistics and delivery network
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Partner with regional managers, store general managers, delivery operations leads, and the customer service team to translate data into strategic recommendations. You'll ensure that data insights are not only clear but actionable for those on the ground
  • Tackle Real-World Challenges: From last-mile delivery hurdles to warehouse bottlenecks, this role requires someone who can navigate ambiguity and provide practical, data-driven solutions. This is not a role for someone who wants to stay behind the scenes; we need a hands-on analyst who can get into the details of operations and drive tangible improvements

Our take

Gopuff was an early player in the last-mile delivery space, offering consumers access to a wide range of consumer goods (including food and alcohol) with delivery in ~30 minutes through its network of micro fulfillment centers, from which a fleet of drivers pick up and drop off orders.

Gopuff currently operates in over 1,000 cities and is adding more. The company has made several strategic acquisitions to charge its growth – including UKs Fancy and Dija, and US BevMo!. However, the company faces increased competition on all sides, from Getir (who recently acquired Gorillas), Glovo, and Zapp, as well as high operating costs.

The company has added a range of new capabilities to its platform, launching features to eliminate former pain points by including advance order scheduling, gifting, and in-store pickup. After abandoning plans to IPO in mid-2022, it is focusing back on profitability, though the company has faced some scrutiny over its methods and has had to search further afield for funding at a time when venture capital is scarce. Regardless, Gopuff is well set to remain a major player in the market.
