Who you are

Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or a related field
Experience developing embedded software, both hardware and software for low-level drivers
Familiarity with embedded Linux, Linux kernel modules, and standard Linux tools
Strong knowledge of programming compiled (C, C++) and scripted (Python, shell script, etc.) languages
Good communication skills and strong team collaboration skills

What the job involves

We are excited to offer a 10-week in-person internship at Capella Space, running from June 3rd to August 15th
This opportunity provides students with hands-on learning and valuable exposure to the dynamic fields of spacecraft design, manufacturing, and geospatial imagery
Alongside meaningful work, our internships include a variety of social events and experiences designed to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance throughout the summer

Join us for a unique opportunity to grow professionally while engaging with a fast-paced and innovative industry
As an intern on the Flight Software team, you will assist in writing the software that runs our satellite fleet in space! You will interact daily with other software engineers, FPGA developers, electrical engineers, and various other subsystem owners to develop, maintain, and implement new features for the spacecraft software
Design, develop, and maintain flight software for satellite systems
Collaborate with EE, FPGA, and ground software engineers
Write and maintain unit and integration tests
Troubleshoot and resolve software issues

Capella Space commands a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) constellation in low-earth orbit that clients can use to access real-time visibility of facts on the ground. It’s the first US company to do so, and has won a correspondingly leading slate of customers that include the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office, the U.S. Air Force, Geospatial, and RSI.

As the urgency of addressing global issues increases, the demand for Capella Space’s services is almost certain to rise. This puts the company in a great position to pursue further success, having already established itself as a key player in the market. It has also seen good funding that will help expand its imaging capacity and develop new data products, and has become one of the first commercial earth observation companies to secure a contract to work with the government on its program to boost US resilience in space.
