Company mission

We’re on a mission. And it’s money without borders. Instant, convenient, transparent and — eventually — free.

Role

Who you are

  • You have a passion for the entire product development lifecycle and a strong affinity for data
  • You are comfortable working across a broad range of technical domains, from cloud offerings and cloud-native technologies to data engineering and analytics
  • You are adept at understanding the trade-offs between different platform technologies, and can communicate these considerations clearly, with an awareness of their practical implications
  • Comfortable collaborating with engineers and business users, with experience working with data engineering, analytics, or data science teams
  • Familiarity with Looker and Superset or other BI Tools
  • Enjoy deciphering complex domains and sharing that understanding
  • Strong analytical skills, enabling you to navigate complex system-design challenges to find innovative solutions using both quantitative and qualitative information
  • Creativity in problem-solving, with an understanding that the most complex solution isn't always the best
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficient in communicating your ideas, knowing when it's best to write, say, or show something
  • Adaptability to the dynamic nature of teamwork in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to pivot to new priorities effectively

Desirable

  • Experience as a Data Product Owner
  • Some hands-on experience as a Data Engineer, Data Scientist or Analytics Engineer (or have some deep SQL experience)
  • Experience using or building data platform products
  • Experience working with large-scale data, preferably with knowledge of OLAP Data Systems
  • Experience with data cloud warehouses, ideally Snowflake or Presto/Trino
  • Are comfortable using Python or SQL to do deep dives into data

What the job involves

  • This role is a unique opportunity to develop your product skills and technical knowledge at a significant scale. By building a platform that enables our engineers to deliver new features with high quality even faster, your contributions will have a major impact on Wise’s mission
  • Platform is a broad domain covering data, compute, networking, CI/CD, SRE, developer experience and much more
  • We want our APMs to keep a laser focus on one or two teams at a time but to move on and gain experience across a wide cross section of the platform tribe long term. This kind of experience and exposure is hard to find at such a rapidly scaling business and technology stack
  • We are looking for an Associate Technical Product Manager who can develop a product strategy and mindset in our Analytics and Data Governance Teams
  • Strategic Vision: You will play a key role in shaping the long-term strategy for our analytics platform, focusing on creating a robust data lake or data mesh architecture
  • Your efforts will ensure that our platform meets the evolving needs of the business, providing scalable and efficient data access to teams across the organisation
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: You will build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and data users across the organisation, ensuring their needs and feedback are integral to the platform's development
  • Your role will be pivotal in translating complex data requirements into actionable insights for your team
  • Fostering a Data-Driven Culture: You will champion the continuous improvement of our data repositories, empowering data owners and users throughout the company to contribute to and benefit from a unified, high-quality data ecosystem
  • Your efforts will drive the adoption of a data-driven mindset across the organisation
  • Alignment, Prioritization, and Outcome Measurement: You will utilise OKRs and agile methodologies to align your team's efforts with the broader strategic goals of the data platform
  • By prioritising work that delivers the highest impact, you will ensure that the platform continuously evolves to meet the needs of the business, with measurable outcomes that demonstrate success
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: You will work closely with other Product Managers, Engineering Leads, and technical teams to ensure that our platform integrates seamlessly with other systems and reduces dependencies
  • Your focus on collaboration and knowledge sharing will accelerate progress and drive innovation across the organisation
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the diverse needs of your stakeholders across the organisation, focusing on the analytics data lifecycle
  • Define their problems and requirements, identifying common areas of concern/benefit and working with stakeholders to understand the impact of these areas
  • Proactively identify, prioritise and execute on the workflows which automate tedious and repetitive tasks
  • Collaborate with your engineering team to integrate with data discovery platforms, governance platforms, and analytics platforms
  • Break down and prioritise tasks by quantifying cost and effort against the benefit to the business and your customers
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure your priority decisions align with the strategic goals of the database platform team
  • Prioritise the development of self service capabilities to improve the user experience of our analytics platforms

Our take

Wise started when the two founders realised they would be better off trading Estonian kroons for British pounds (and vice versa) between themselves rather than going through banks. That was back in 2011, and they've since grown Wise into one of Europe's most successful tech businesses, exchanging billions of currency every month.

Wise rapidly grew by solving a significant problem for customers, who lost too much money to banks when exchanging currency. They've attracted investment from some of the best investors in the world, from Andreesen Horowitz to Index Ventures and even Richard Branson.

The challenge for Wise will be maintaining their edge and brand power in a market that's becoming increasingly crowded with new entrants (like Revolut and Monzo) and incumbents (traditional banks) trying to catch up. To do so, the company is ramping up its digital and marketing strategies, as well as pushing for further development of its existing products.
