Who you are

The ideal candidate should have a strong desire to continue to learn, to develop and to explore ideas; to demonstrate strong design and coding skills, and, above all, have a passion for quality
BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Strong C/C++ or C# skills gained in a commercial environment
Deep understanding of concurrency and related design patterns
A solid understanding of software testing techniques including writing unit tests
Experience with Git, GitHub or other major version control systems
Good problem-solving skills

Desirable

Strong UI / UX design skills
Experience with UI frameworks including native and web-based frameworks such as Blazor or React
Familiar with HTML / CSS / JavaScript / Web Assembly
Experience with H264, HEVC, AAC, and PCM video/audio encoding and decoding
Decoding frameworks and pipelines such as FFmpeg and Media Foundation
2D Graphics experience for rendering with DirectX, OpenGL or WebGL/WebGPU
Experience of developing high performance / multi-threaded applications on Windows, Linux and/or MacOS
Experience with other languages including Rust and/or Python
PostgreSQL or similar relational database products
Familiarity with networking fundamentals and programming
Understanding of cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes and containerization concepts

Join the team that creates PlayStation development tools used by thousands of game developers, testers, artists, and producers to make every PlayStation game
Working with experienced colleagues, you will play a fundamental role developing and improving our video streaming technology that has developed into a critical product since remote working became the norm
Analysis of customer requirements to produce maintainable designs
Develop and deliver work to schedule
Participate in code and documentation reviews
Provide estimates for tasks
Provide feedback to technical writers producing documentation
Work with support engineers on customer issues

Our take

Since the release of the PS1 in 1994, PlayStation has been a consistent leader in the video gaming market. Its consoles are iconic in the gaming community - PlayStation has produced both the top-selling and fastest-selling console of all time - and the company is still pushing boundaries. Its current flagship - the PS5 - promises to revolutionise gaming, featuring new technology that will create improvements across the board.

As well as its consoles, PlayStation has also developed online services, connecting its users and giving them access to diversified media. A PlayStation can be used for a huge range of activities - from Netflix to guided workouts - which has led to the expansion of the company's audience over time and across generations.

PlayStation faces competition in its field from the likes of Microsoft, with its Xbox range, and PC gaming, which has been becoming more popular in recent years. The upcoming implementation of in-game ads in free games looks to significantly increase revenue, and the wider PlayStation gaming experience also appears to be evolving from plans to launch live service games in upcoming years.
