Role
Who you are
- 3+ years of experience solving distributed systems/web development problems
- 3+ years of experience writing robust frontends in React/Typescript
- Detailed experience designing and building modern back-end cloud systems
- A track record of leading developers to deliver effective solutions in a modern, cloud-based architecture, ideally using Python and Node.js
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Desirable
- GraphQL and related frameworks e.g. Relay, Apollo and URQL
- Containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, ECS, EKS
- Web apps with live updates - pub/sub solutions (such as Redis), WebSockets
- SQL (especially modern versions of PostgreSQL)
- Designing and building observability solutions, utilizing modern monitoring, logging, and metrics tools ensure overall system health
- HIPAA, PHI and PII compliance
What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced software engineer to build our critical Enterprise Clinical workflows system
- The Butterfly Cloud provides a secure and robust connection to user’s health information
- We build tools and services that allow doctors and clinicians to make informed, intelligent diagnostic decisions with the help of their fellow peers
- In doing so, we manage and maintain our customer’s administration of users and organizations, ensuring feature and entitlement management as well as building scalable, platform enterprise features like global search and audit logging
- Join us in solving challenging, mission critical problems that will make our technology accessible to 40 million physicians and billions of people worldwide
- Solve distributed systems problems, designing for elasticity, reliability, performance and automated validation
- Build modern solutions using the best technologies available, informed by a deep understanding of cloud architecture and how distributed systems operate at scale
- Own business problems, shape ideas into system designs and lead developers through execution
- Mentor and lead other engineers to achieve our goals
- Perform a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities
Our take
Ultrasound machines are invaluable tools for clinicians, but these setups remain inaccessible to many. This is due to existing machines relying on quartz-powered transducers and other specialized components, resulting in a very large size and an expensive price tag.
Butterfly Network builds innovative, inexpensive, and compact ultrasound technology in order to increase access to clinics across the U.S. The device is around the same size as an electric razor, a design made possible by storing the ultrasound technology on a chip as opposed to a semi-conductor.
Whilst the company has not innovated the ultrasound process itself, Butterfly Network has found a unique gap in the market by providing inexpensive and easy-to-use access to the many clinics that could benefit from having an ultrasound machine. The device is available for under $2,000, but software designed for easy access and interpretation of ultrasound imagery comes at an additional monthly cost.
The company has also launched its very own AI marketplace called ''Butterfly Garden'' where medical device companies, virtual care companies, and AI developers can access Butterfly's software development kit. This will enable them to build new applications that reach Butterfly's prominent installed base.
