Who you are
- We're looking for experienced software engineers who are interested in tackling deep technical challenges in data analytics
- Have at least 4 years of professional experience shipping features as a full-stack engineer
- Have experience working in a high-growth startup

What the job involves
- As an early hire, you’ll work closely with the founders on shaping the future direction for Count and be responsible for shipping entire features
- Due to our small scale and flat structure, you’ll work autonomously on business critical projects, and collaborate with others throughout our team and user base
- Our application is predominantly implemented in TypeScript with Node on the backend and React on the frontend
- In addition to these core technologies, our tech stack also includes Python, WebAssembly, WebGL, Apache Arrow, DuckDB, and Kubernetes
- For the best possible user experience, we have developed various technologies in-house, including a custom WebGL rendering engine, data visualization library, reactive SQL/Python notebook, and database query framework
- Some of the projects you could work on include:
- Expanding what users can do with AI agents for data exploration in canvases
- Adding new data sources (including non-SQL sources)
- Extending the interactivity and customizability of visualizations
- Improving the performance and/or reliability of DuckDB queries that run on our servers or in the browser
- Implementing a stateful backend for Python cells
Application process
- An initial discussion (30-45 mins) for you to ask any questions you have about Count and for us to learn more about your experience and interests
- A working session with two engineers (90-120 mins), where we'll dive into the stack and work with you through a technical challenge that we have faced recently
- A final meeting with our founders (45-60 mins)
- The working session and final meeting will take place either virtually or in London, depending on where you're based

Although technology has developed quickly in the past years, the way we analyze SQL has remained unchanged. Count is a technology startup that is setting out to solve this problem by building a next-generation SQL editor that provides SQL analysts with a modern analytical workflow.
Count enables data teams to find and share insights quickly, supercharging decision-making across their organisation. It provides a seamless workflow for SQL analysis, letting data teams explore their data in a reactive SQL notebook, collaborate in real-time and publish their results as beautiful, interactive data apps that their whole organisation can use.
Count's primary target audience is early-stage tech companies, and it has been steadily increasing its customer base since raising $2.4 million in seed funding in 2020. Count has been intermittently releasing updates to its platform to increase its clients' rates of data distribution and continues to remain proactive despite its period of relative quiet through the 2020s.
