Role
Who you are
- We expect you to be customer-centric, continuously learning, passionate about technology and usability
- Deep understanding of JavaScript methodologies and design patterns
- Proficiency with TypeScript or any typed language
- Experience with React or 2+ similar frameworks, developing performant and reusable components
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, such as SOLID, Design Patterns, CI/CD
- A product mindset with a focus on offering the best user experiences
- Experience working in a distributed team
Desirable
- Awareness of common security issues in client-side development, such as those in the OWASP top ten, and how to mitigate them
- Familiarity with UX, accessibility, internationalization, and localization concerns and solutions
- Experience with Grafana or other monitoring platforms
- Experience with breaking down product requirements into architecture design and implementation
- Experience with NodeJS
- High-level understanding of cryptography concepts such as key exchange and the difference between symmetric and asymmetric encryption
What the job involves
- Proton Account team owns capabilities throughout the lifecycle of our customer journeys, from the critical acquisition and signup step, to account management while utilizing our services, to effective promotions and checkout flows
- The Accounts Team is one of the key engineering teams that are centrally positioned to contribute within all Proton's products
- Develop new features: Developing, deploying and supporting high-quality user experiences, including feature development and implementation
- Collaboration: Work closely with backend, product owners, designers, QA, and other endineers to take initiatives from ideation to completion
- Code review and optimization: Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure code quality, maintainability, and performance optimization
- Testing: Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies, including unit tests and integration tests, to ensure the reliability of core libraries
- Management: Break down large initiatives into smaller milestones to gather stakeholder feedback quickly, allowing us to course-correct immediately

Proton is a Geneva-based startup founded by former CERN worker and internet privacy advocate Andy Yen. It provides internet users with encrypted webmail, calendar, drive, and VPN services.
Proton maintains its pro-privacy ethos using a Swiss VPN, protected by strict Swiss privacy laws. In essence, it has established a connection between the personal and the political, smartly utilising the country’s national laws to benefit people and organisations globally. Proton also funds charities and movements such as the World Wide Web Foundation and Netblocks, further cementing it as an influential NGO.
Perhaps Proton’s most important quality is its determination to maintain independence from advertisers and companies. Originally founded on donations, Proton has funded itself via grants rather than venture capital so that all of its customer's data is never at risk of being mined. One effect of this is that to keep up with the increasing competition in the data privacy sector, Proton has expanded its services to allow more cross-selling and simultaneously has more products to offer, such as drive and calendar privacy.
