Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering, with at least 3+ years in engineering leadership roles
- Proven success managing cloud-native applications on GCP (or AWS/Azure), especially with GKE/Kubernetes
- Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and REST/gRPC APIs
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java
- Deep knowledge of GCP services: Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, IAM, and VPC networking
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi) and CI/CD practices
- Familiarity with telemetry and observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
- Solid grasp of networking, security, and scaling strategies for cloud-based services
- Experience with large-scale data systems and analytics pipelines is a plus
- Strong people leadership and team-building skills; ability to grow talent and drive delivery
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent military experience required
What the job involves
- Palo Alto Networks’ ADEM (Autonomous Digital Experience Management) team is looking for a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead the development of scalable, cloud-native services that power digital experience monitoring and analysis
- You will manage a team of backend engineers building distributed systems and data processing pipelines running on Kubernetes in GCP
- This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical judgment, people management skills, and a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and service architecture
- Lead a team of engineers building high-scale backend services, deployed in Kubernetes and leveraging GCP’s data and compute infrastructure
- Own project delivery across the full software lifecycle—from design and development to deployment, monitoring, and support
- Drive technical strategy and architecture for core ADEM services, including data ingestion, processing, and analytics
- Partner with Product Management, Architecture, and SRE teams to ensure performance, reliability, and security at scale
- Encourage engineering best practices in CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure automation
- Grow and mentor a high-impact engineering team through coaching, feedback, and career development
- Promote a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement within the team
- Identify process and architectural improvements to scale engineering effectiveness and system performance
