Role
Who you are
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Frontend Developer
- Love writing code and continue learning to do it better
- Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack
- Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5 and CSS3
- Experience with front-end development tools such as Webpack, NPM, etc
- Understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable front-end code using TypeScript, Next.js and ReactJS
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and translate them into user-friendly interfaces
- Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
- Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to ensure best practices

- The team needs another strong software engineer to contribute to these solutions

- The First 30 Days
- Gain access to repositories, design systems, and CI/CD pipelines
- Set up the local development environment and run the application
- Understand the project structure, component architecture, and state management
- Join stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Meet with designers, backend engineers, and product managers to understand workflows
- Participate in code reviews to understand best practices
- The First 60 Days
- Develop a new UI component or page, ensuring responsiveness and performance
- Implement global state management solutions like Redux
- Optimize API calls using Next.js API routes or caching techniques
- Identify and fix slow-loading pages using Next.js performance tools
- Reduce JavaScript bundle size using code splitting and lazy loading
- Contribute to frontend documentation or improve design system components
- Provide feedback on UI/UX designs and suggest improvements
- Mentor junior developers or onboard new team members
- 90 Days & Beyond
- Refactor legacy components to modern React patterns (Server Components, Suspense)
- Improve code reusability by enhancing the component library
- Implement TypeScript best practices to catch bugs early
- Propose improvements for CI/CD processes (e.g., automated testing, preview deployments)
- Enhance accessibility (a11y) compliance and improve Lighthouse scores
- Research and suggest the adoption of new frontend tools or libraries
- Work with product managers and designers to shape better user experiences
- Lead a knowledge-sharing session on Next.js optimizations or frontend trends
- Set goals for the next 6 months (e.g., migration plans, design system improvements)

Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day
- The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners
- The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more
Our take
Public vehicle surveillance provides valuable insights to emergency services for the prevention of crime, but bringing information together to create leads is difficult. There's no standardised system for inter-city vehicle surveillance, and this makes it difficult for communities and law enforcement services to work together.
Flock Safety provides surveillance equipment that aims to improve the abilities of law enforcement and homeowner associations to communicate data with each other. The company focuses on vehicle surveillance, innovating on existing technology by using machine learning to categorise vehicles by color, license plate, state, and other data points.
Whilst automated surveillance equipment is used daily within federal police forces, Flock Safety builds technology systems that provide a means for smaller law enforcement agencies to quantify and share surveillance data easily. This data can then be automatically processed to help develop leads, a time-consuming process that would usually have to be completed manually.
