Role
Who you are
- We are looking for someone that’s familiar with both the data domain, and infrastructure
- Understand SQL at an advanced level and are able to review SQL statements from other teams
- Have experience with distributed computing frameworks, such as Hadoop or Spark
- Have experience with data pipelines and workflow management tools (for example, Airbyte)
- Are able to write easy to maintain code and documentation in at least one language. (We’re a golang shop.)
- Know how to leverage CI/CD systems to deploy and make changes to an already existing data platform infrastructure
- Are able to use infrastructure-as-code tools to create self-healing systems. (We use Terraform)
- Understand the problem domain of cloud-native infrastructure for data services, and keeps your knowledge up to date as the industry evolves
- Can lead small-to-medium sized projects independently, while keeping your Lead (Manager) and various stakeholders up-to-date
- Can own the infrastructure of our data platform, and uses your knowledge to keep it stable, performant, durable, and secure
- Always be willing to jump in and use your knowledge and skills to resolve issues, hopefully before our users even notice
Desirable
- Love the challenge of dealing with large amounts of fast-moving data
- In addition to advanced SQL knowledge, you’re familiar with MQL. (MongoDB Query Language)
- You know several programming languages, including Go, Java and Python
- Have an open mind and a willingness to adapt infrastructure designs over time as our needs change and grow
- Are able to work with container orchestration systems, such as Kubernetes, even if you aren’t (yet!) an expert in it
- Have an understanding of telemetry data. We use OpenTelemetry and like to make things as visible as we can
- You are well-versed in data reliability and integrity best practices
- You maintain a working knowledge of the data-focused offerings from our cloud providers, and are able to make recommendations as new technologies emerge
- You have a deep knowledge of Linux and TCP/IP networking
- You can help our team win the game of “Apache Project or Fictional Dinosaur-Like Cartoon Character?”
What the job involves
- The Developer Productivity Infrastructure team is a member of our DevProd Platforms group
- Our team owns the cloud infrastructure for DevProd, and we’re expanding our focus to include a Data Platform
- Some of the challenges our team faces is being able to maintain the infrastructure that allows many thousands of hosts to be created and destroyed a day, maintain DevProd’s sizable Atlas footprint, and being able to respond quickly to meet the needs of our users
- This position is located in the MongoDB Developer Productivity organization, and specifically within the Platform group within DevProd
- The mission of DevProd is to empower MongoDB developers to efficiently build a transformative data platform that is provably high quality, secure, performant, and releasable on-schedule
- Our team has a big mission to build a data platform for MongoDB R&D to use to make data-informed decisions
- We’re just at the start of our journey and are looking for a new team member to join us that can take on the job of making sure that our fledgling data platform is stable, secure, scalable, self-healing, and durable
- Our Platform team is located mostly in the EDT and PDT time zones, but we work with other teams all over the world

MongoDB is an open-source, cross-platform, document-oriented database system. It stores data as JSON-like documents and is written in C++, Go, JavaScript and Python.
Essentially, the company develops tools and blueprints to help businesses and organisations modernise their legacy applications, migrating them to the MongoDB database and the MongoDB Atlas cloud database. With this initiative, MongoDB is particularly taking aim at Oracle customers with ageing applications running on the Oracle relational database system.
Since its release, MongoDB has become one of the most popularly used NoSQL database systems due to its ease of use and efficiency. It is also the fastest-growing database ecosystem, and boasts hundreds of millions of downloads. Recently, the company announced a partnership with Patronus AI, an automated evaluation and security platform, through which it will bring automated LLM evaluation and testing capabilities to enterprise customers.
