Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for a self-starter with a strong understanding of accounting principles and a willingness to get in the weeds
- Strong communication and organizational skills are essential as you work cross functionally to deliver timely and insightful financial reporting that can help drive business decisions
- 7+ years of accounting experience, ideally with a combination of public (Big 4) and private experience. Experience in marketplaces a plus
- Strong knowledge of relevant accounting guidelines (GAAP) with an emphasis on ASC606 and applications to marketplace models
- Strong analytical skills; well-versed in Excel and Google Sheets with strong NetSuite proficiency
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- High attention to detail with an ability to drive urgency and meet deadlines while ensuring quality standards
- 3+ years of management experience building high performing accounting teams
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA required
What the job involves
- Our mission is to build the world’s leading platform for hourly workers and enterprises enabling flexibility, choice, and upward social mobility
- We are looking for a motivated accounting leader to oversee all accounting operations reporting to our SVP Finance
- This includes overseeing our accounting team to execute day-to-day accounting operations, ensure timely and accurate preparation of Shiftsmart’s financial reports - including our month end close - and own our annual audit
- This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and build a top notch accounting function from the ground up
- Your role will evolve alongside the company growth, but some of your early responsibilities will include
- Oversee all accounting operations including - but not limited to - general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax, and treasury
- Own and continuously seek to improve the month-end, quarterly and annual close process to ensure an efficient and accurate close process
- Develop Shiftsmart’s accounting standards and maintain a strong internal control environment to ensure financial statements are prepared with adherence to GAAP
- Proactively identify inefficiencies and opportunities to improve our accounting operations across general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and treasury
- Execute Shiftsmart’s annual audit alongside external auditors
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure preparation of insightful financial reporting that enables business and engineering teams and can drive decision making
- Develop and lead a high performing accounting team focused on continuous improvement of the accounting function

Driven by the gig economy becoming more normalized and demand for flexible hours increasing, Shiftsmart saw its revenue increase by nearly 400%, and they put this success down to a competitively unique business model that sees more control being put in the hands of workers and employers alike. They have now done work in over 57 countries, and are operating tens of thousands of shifts each week.
Some user feedback suggests the company still has some kinks to iron out on their platform, with multiple complaints about delayed or missing payments. But with thousands of successful, efficient job placements found over the last few years, Shiftsmart are making strides in an area that looks set to remain in high demand.
