Role
Who you are
- You are an experienced data scientist (minimum 3 years), with experience in applying your skills to commercial trading and/or business growth decisions
- You are comfortable with a variety of modelling techniques, SQL, and methods of data capture
- You are strategically minded and can identify levers to drive commercial success, and ensure we are collecting the right data to inform our decisions
- You are highly executional, and can collaboratively implement changes based on your findings to improve our commercial performance
- You are at ease with the idea of working in a small startup, which can often require wearing many hats and helping with things outside of your normal job description
- You excel at prioritising and context switching: You work on a wide range of projects at the same time and can prioritise proactively and independently
- Marketplace experience is a plus
What the job involves
- Data driven decision making: You will analyse data to understand commercial performance, uncover growth mechanisms, and shopping behaviour and conduct regular deep dives to optimise commercial performance. A few examples of this could include optimising our discount engine, pricing and optimising our trading metrics to drive maximum contribution
- Optimising the customer journey: Ensure the customer journey is optimised to drive commercial performance through analytics, customer research, and an understanding of the competition, continuously seeking opportunities to drive conversion
- Drive cross-functional initiatives & Work closely with marketing, operations, tech and external partners: You will build strong internal and external relationships and take ownership of driving cross-functional projects forward
- Trading, forecasting and reporting: You will own our day-to-day trading performance, forecasting and reporting. You will be owning and managing multiple channels (including eBay and Shopify)

Thrift is the U.K.'s largest online second-hand fashion store and clothing donation service. The company is setting out to reduce the waste associated with the fashion industry by allowing people to easily donate their clothes while also supporting their favourite charities.
Thrift collects clothing from individuals and businesses, sorts, photographs & lists them on their online store. Sales generated through e-commerce are then split between Thrift+, the donor, and their chosen charity.
According to the CEO, Joe Metcalfe, over 50,000 bags of clothing are donated every day, which represent a market size of £1.4bn. Thrift is hoping to gain a significant share in this market and have recently raised £950k, which will be invested in scaling the operations associated with its clothing donation service.
