Role
Who you are
- A strong people experience is essential for Oyster’s success across a diverse and complex landscape
- Experience working within a highly collaborative and cross-functional People Operations or People Experience role
- Experience responding to and managing complex employee queries
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build cross-functional relationships
- While we have an incredible team of employment lawyers and other specialists supporting us on the more technical stuff, experience applying HR principles and practices when navigating employee queries is a must for this position
- Naturally, you will have the ability to handle sensitive information independently and an awareness of the criticality of data privacy
- We’re remote and asynchronous, so with that comes the supreme individual responsibility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and maintain your initiative around the work you are responsible for - we’ve got a lot of great resources to help here, but it’s an important cornerstone to come with, too
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team - as generic as this sounds, it’s really not. A lot of work you will be doing will tie in with our team's sprint process and be reliant on others who know that part better than you do (teamwork!). Conversely, there is stuff that you will pretty much own in isolation. Being able to switch between the two approaches is going to be important in delivering success in this role
- Strong Project Management skills with the ability to define, craft and deliver pieces of work in an agile environment
- [BONUS] Experience working with project management, documentation and collaboration tools such as Asana, Notion, Loom and Miro

- A reliable home internet connection (or be able to get one)
- Fluent English language skills

- As a People Experience team, we develop the products and services that create a seamless employee journey - products that ‘just work well’ for both the People team and the employees, finding the ideal intersection of operational efficiency and employee experience
- As a People Experience Specialist, your People Operations knowledge and build capability will ensure you have a meaningful impact on the operational solutions and programs we develop in support of our business objectives
- Your responsibilities will include automating and enhancing our People Operations workflows, capturing and analyzing People data, supporting our international employees, and collaborating on people projects
- Additionally, you will champion best practices and collaborate with the wider People team to refine the employee experience
- This role will report to the Senior Manager of People, Programs and Operations as part of our People Experience (Px) team, within the broader People function
- Build the exciting People Operations products we develop to ensure they are built with purpose, utility, and customer experience in mind
- Grow your People Operations acumen as a first-line point of contact for employee queries and in support of our People Operations services
- Automate and improve People workflows throughout the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, compensation and reward, and performance management
- Make sure our people databases are impeccably up to date so that you can help us run reports that give us insights into making Oyster a continuously better place to work!
- Write clear and succinct articles for our knowledge base, and to help our employees navigate our exciting initiatives
- Support us in carrying out a seamless onboarding experience for our new joiners (after you’ve had a great one yourself!)
- Give your input on the exciting People Operations products we build to ensure they are built with purpose, utility and customer experience in mind
- Identify areas for improvement in existing People programs and operations and propose and contribute to new initiatives to address gaps and ensure our programs scale and grow with our business

A global economy demands a global workforce, but up until recently, it has been incredibly difficult for employers to hire global talent. Frustrated by costs and legal uncertainty surrounding employing individuals in other countries, many global businesses have had their talent pool dictated by the location of their offices. Oyster wants to change this.
Oyster has built a platform which gives businesses everything they need to employ and manage a globally distributed team. Covering everything from international payroll to distributing employee benefits, Oyster's software platform is created to solve the complexities of giving full-time, full-fledged employment to anyone in the world. This benefits employers, who can access the best talent regardless of location, but also employees, who can access a worldwide jobs market and find the best outlet for their abilities.
Oyster is not the first global HR-services provider in this space, and as such it will have to fight hard for market share. That being said, the market for global HR services is still in its infancy, meaning that Oyster has a really good shot at establishing itself as a key player early on. And, with more businesses moving their workforces online permanently, there is good reason to think that the demand for remote global talent could be set for a big surge. If this proves to be the case, and if Oyster can get itself a strong client base early on, it could be set for big things in the future.
