Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure and/or platform engineering, with a focus on software development
- Proficiency in Go (preferred) or Python
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems
- Operational experience with distributed storage systems like Ceph
- Familiarity with Python’s asyncio programming model
- Experience with frontend serverless platforms like Vercel, Cloudflare Pages Functions, etc
- Understanding of Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains, including L2 architectures like Polygon, Optimism, and Base
- Knowledge of L2 scaling solutions such as optimistic rollups, zk-rollups, Plasma, sidechains, and bridges
- Passion for learning and exploring new technologies and paradigms
- Experience designing large-scale systems, breaking down complex problems, and aligning with cross-functional engineering teams
- Familiarity with blockchain infrastructure, including RPC nodes and IPFS
- Strong experience with database technologies such as MongoDB and Postgres
- Solid understanding of monitoring and observability practices using tools like Datadog and/or OpenTelemetry
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, from orchestration layers down to system runtimes
- Clear and effective communication skills, with a collaborative and service-oriented mindset
What the job involves
- Zora is looking for an experienced infrastructure software engineer to work closely with the development team to ensure that the infrastructure meets the needs of the business and is scalable and highly available, including indexer service, API, data pipeline, disaster recovery, and other blockchain-related project support
- Design, build, and deliver software to enhance the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Zora’s infrastructure platform
- Provide technical and strategic input to shape the direction of the infrastructure platform
- Operate and maintain core infrastructure systems in service of enhancing the developer experience
- Automate key infrastructure workflows, including service lifecycle management and critical operational processes
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and respond to production incidents as needed
- Examples of Software at Zora:
- An RPC proxy that intelligently routes blockchain traffic between in-house and vendor nodes, ensuring data consistency, improving our reliability
- A platform that reduces friction for engineers to deploy, monitor, and manage production code
- Our highly performant in-house Kubernetes cluster running on bare metal servers
- The Zora RPC service, surfacing blockchain data for our core indexing infra
Our take
Zora is one of a number of companies leading the growth of pro-creator platforms in the Web3 space with its Ethereum-based NFT marketplace. The company was founded in 2020 as NFTs began to dominate headlines, and swiftly raised major funding as a potential competitor to the incumbent leader in this space, OpenSea.
Though its rival OpenSea is the undisputed leader in the NFT marketplace, a number of growing pains and controversies have led to a demand for more decentralized avenues.
Zora has moved swiftly to take advantage of the growing pains and controversies plaguing its rival, quickly gaining a customer base of individuals and companies looking for alternatives. One of Zora's major strengths is that the marketplace protocol that it creates is also used by a number of third-party sites. In essence, Zora is both a sales platform and a SaaS for other businesses.
While the future of NFTs is difficult to predict given the extreme volatility the sector has experienced since 2022, Zora looks well-positioned to thrive as long as the market does. That being said, it is branching out into the AI space, under the understanding that there is a crossover market between the aforementioned and crypto.
