Role
Who you are
- If you love designing intuitive systems, working across the stack (with a tilt toward backend), and enabling automation at scale — this is the team for you
- 3+ years of experience building and maintaining production systems
- Strong backend experience using Python (Django preferred), Node.js, or similar frameworks
- Familiarity with frontend tools like React and TypeScript, and a willingness to contribute as needed
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, event-based systems, and scalable backend workflows
- Comfort working across cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, and observability stacks
- Interest in building for internal developer experience and platform scalability
- You value collaboration, pairing, and async communication in a remote team environment
- You’re customer-focused. Whether internal or external, you care about solving real problems and creating great experiences
- You love learning and are curious about ambiguous or novel problems. You’re comfortable asking questions, digging in, and figuring things out
- You’ve used AI tooling for work or personal use—or you are willing to dive in and learn fast
- You explore new tools, workflows, and ideas to make things more efficient, and are eager to deepen your understanding of AI and use it regularly
What the job involves
- We’re hiring a Fullstack Engineer (backend-leaning) to help us improve the infrastructure and developer experience that supports Zapier’s integrations
- You’ll contribute to internal tooling, user-facing surfaces, and backend services that support app developers, internal product teams, and the broader Zapier ecosystem
- Our mission is to make Zapier the most connected, enterprise-ready AI orchestration platform in the world. That means:
- Building high-quality, AI-optimized integrations
- Supporting automation builders through better integration surfaces and dev tools
- Maintaining a scalable backend that powers both partner apps and our internal platform
- Enabling features like Zapier Copilot, multi-result search actions, and developer orchestration tooling
- We prioritize quality, reusability, and developer experience — not just scale for scale’s sake
- You'll build and maintain internal tools, APIs, and user interfaces that support integration development and management
- Work primarily in backend systems, with the ability to contribute to frontend code (React, TypeScript) as needed
- Improve and modernize legacy systems tied to integrations, orchestration, or developer workflows
- Collaborate with platform and product teams to build reusable features used by integration developers and internal squads
- Partner with AI and infrastructure teams to support code generation, structured outputs, and test automation
- Help define and implement improvements to our developer-facing surfaces, including dashboards and docs
- This role sits at the core of Zapier’s long-term platform vision. In this role, you’ll:
- Ship improvements that directly affect how Zapier builds and maintains integrations
- Contribute to surfaces and tooling used by our internal teams and third-party developers
- Help prepare Zapier’s platform for LLM-driven orchestration and smarter automation
- Influence the architecture and developer experience that powers the Zapier ecosystem

Our take
Even before remote working became the "in thing", freelancers, small business owners, and large organisations have found themselves needing more and more software platforms to serve their operations needs. As people used more software services, Zapier founders saw the need to connect the actions between these softwares and save everyone some time.
Zapier is the largest integration and automation tool for businesses. Since being founded, Zapier has grown its suite of automation offerings across almost every mainstream software service. The company is one of the most successful to come out of Y Combinator, and has also been one of the pioneers of remote working.
Zapier has so far, been able to capitalise heavily on its advantage as first entrants and has had very little actual competition. Software services aren't going anywhere anytime soon and organisations are only going to need more of them. This puts Zapier in a strong place growth-wise but also opens up room for bolder companies to get in on the action. Companies like Airtable and Integromat are already preying on more niche segments of Zapier's market share.
